Marvel actor Charlie Cox wants to see a lot more legal drama when Matt Murdock returns in Daredevil: Born Again. Now confirmed for release on Disney+, the Daredevil reinvention series is set to debut on Disney+ and will last for a mammoth 18 episodes. Which, according to Cox, should give the show plenty of time for more courtroom action.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Cox is longing to explore more of Matt Murdock’s life and hopes that such a high episode count will allow him to take center stage as a lawyer in Daredevil: Born Again. During his time on Netflix, each series of which lasted for 13 episodes, we only saw Murdock rule the courtroom a handful of times, including defending Frank Castle aka The Punisher in the second season.

“We know they’re going to be 18 episodes and that’s kind of mind-blowing to me. What I hope that does, is it gives us longer to really live in the characters and to spend more time in Matt Murdock’s world as a lawyer.”

With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law currently exploring the legal side of superheroism, Matt Murdock will enter a very different world when he returns in Daredevil: Born Again. Murdock’s superb skills as an attorney have already been teased in the MCU during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and no doubt Daredevil fans would love to see more of Matt Murdock being a really good lawyer just as much as Charlie Cox does.

“You know, have all the cool Daredevil superhero stuff, but to really live in his world and to ground the show in the day-to-day life of someone who has a profession as a lawyer, could be really interesting. It could be really fun.”

Daredevil: Born Again Will Not Make The Man Without Fear a Slapstick Character

Charlie Cox clearly has his own ideas for how Daredevil: Born Again will resurrect the Marvel character. Aside from wanting to see much more of Matt Murdock doing his lawyer thing, the actor has assured fans that the Disney+ reinvention will not introduce a slapstick version of The Man Without Fear.

“I don’t think that would work. Not over the course of our entire season. Not with this character,” Cox said. “I don’t think it’s necessarily truthful enough to the source material for it to really work.”

While Daredevil fans can breathe a sigh of relief that Daredevil: Born Again will not be slipping over on rogue banana skins, Cox did go on to state that, while the character will not become comedic, that does not mean there is no room for some more lighthearted antics.

“There’s plenty of comics, Daredevil comics, there’s plenty of runs where there is levity,” Cox continued. “There’s lightheartedness. There is fun. And I think with 18 episodes, you got time to do a bit of both.”

Following his imminent appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Cox will next appear as Daredevil in the upcoming Disney+ series, Echo. After teaming up with both She-Hulk and Echo, Charlie Cox will then lead his own series, Daredevil: Born Again, which is expected to be released in Spring 2024.
