A female-led Fast & Furious spin-off has been discussed for some time now but has failed to burn rubber on the big screen. Charlize Theron has always been the obvious choice to lead such a spin-off, and as the actress is starring in the final two movies in the Fast franchise, there is still a good chance that could happen. However, while the prospect of that spin-off is still possible, Theron believes that it would not have been even thought of if it had not been championed by Fast & Furious driving force Vin Diesel. She told The Hollywood Reporter:

Last year it was announced that a spin-off movie based on Theron’s character of Cipher was being put into development. Theron joined the franchise in The Fate of the Furious in 2017 and has since reprised her antagonist role in F9, and will again in Fast X and the final Fast and Furious movie. While the idea seems to have been stalled since then, with the main franchise heading to its conclusion, there has already been a lot of talk about how it could branch out into other directions in the coming years.

“Listen, as a producer, I take my hat off. That f-cking guy built something with Universal that very few people will ever build in their entire life. You don’t drag an audience with you for that long. Whatever you think of those movies, you have to be an idiot not to be like, “That’s a f-cking accomplishment.” So, we’ll see…”

Brie Larson Will Be Joining the Franchise in Fast X

The Fast movies have always had a strong female contingent, with previous movies including Michelle Rodriguez, Helen Mirren, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, and Anna Sawai, among others. This time around, along with Daniela Melchior, the franchise will debut Brie Larson in Fast X, adding more potential characters to be added to an all-female roster.

When the announcement of her casting was made, Larson shared a post on her Instagram account that ensured everyone was aware of how excited joining the franchise made her. She wrote:

Vin Diesel gave the actress a warm welcome, sharing an image of the two of them together and saying:

“Excited doesn’t even begin to explain how I feel about joining the Fast family. Thank you for welcoming me in with so much kindness and excitement, @vindiesel. can’t wait to share more (when I can).”

Fast X is set to be released on May 19, 2023, with Fast XI following in February 2024.

“Yeah yeah yeah… you see this angel over my shoulder cracking me up, you say to your self ‘That’s Captain Marvel.’ Clearly there is love and laughter in this image. What you don’t see however, is the character you will be introduced to in ‘Fast 10.’ You have no idea how timeless and amazing she will be in our mythology. Beyond her beauty, her intellect… her Oscar, haha is this profound soul who will add something you might not have expected but yearned for. Welcome to the FAMILY Brie.”
