Charlize Theron has always been one to speak her mind. According to The Hollywood Reporter, who sat down with Charlize Theron (School for Good and Evil), she dropped more than 150 F-bombs during the interview. The Oscar winner Theron spoke about how she has never allowed herself to be pigeonholed, despite many people trying to.

Early in her career, after her big break in the film 2 Days in the Valley, Theron saw her lingerie-clad figure featured on a huge Los Angeles billboard. Theron then decided she wasn’t going to be known for one thing and chose characters and projects that challenged her.

Theron feels responsible for doing her characters justice, primarily when they are based on real people, such as in the 2019 film Bombshell when she played Fox News reporter Megyn Kelly. Theron acts, produces, and chooses projects that span genres from action films, The Old Guard and Mad Max: Fury Road, to the comedy, Young Adult, and everything in between. In addition to her work on-camera, Theron is a spokesperson for many organizations and a U.N. messenger of peace.

“I had a manager at the time who was like, “You have an offer to do Naked Gun and a Half II” or something, and I was like, “Yeah, no, I don’t want to do that.” He was all, “You’ll never work again. Who do you think you are?” And I was like, “You’re right. I am nobody. But something tells me I shouldn’t do that.” And I like those movies, but I didn’t want to have to go home in four years and run my mom’s construction company. I was constantly thinking about, “How do I make this last?” And if you can keep surprising audiences, you might get the job."

Theron admits she learned everything she knows from her biggest role model, her mother, including her tenacity and sense of humor. Theron ended up in Los Angeles thanks to her mother, who believed in her talent and potential and bought her the bus ticket she needed to enter the city of stars.

The Atomic Blonde actress is a mother herself now and still speaks to her own every day. “She’s also a broad, and she swears way more than I do.” Theron attributes the qualities that have made her successful, such as her hard work ethic and tenacity, to her mother.

Theron says that she values being a mother over any of the other roles and that the love of her kids motivates her to keep doing movies. The next two films in the Furious franchise are slated to release in 2023 and 2024.
