Perhaps fans will see Chris Evans make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not as Steve Rogers. Of course, Evans had spent many years in the MCU, and that included starring in three of his own Captain America movies. He has since retired the Steve Rogers role as the plan for Captain America 4 is for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Anthony Mackie to take the lead as the new wielder of the shield.
Evans might feel like he’s done all he can with Captain America, but he hasn’t necessarily shut the door on appearing in the MCU. In a new interview with MTV News to help promote Lightyear, Evans reflected on his superhero movie work. He was asked about the possibility of returning as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, from the Fantastic Four movies. Evans was entertained by the idea and revealed that he’d be open to it, much more so than he would be with returning as Steve Rogers.

While Chris Evans is not expecting to reprise his Captain America role anytime soon, he has not closed that door and thrown away the key just yet. In another recent interview with ComicBook.com, Evans had similarly explained how he was very leery about returning to that role, and the only thing that could convince him to do it would be a “perfect” idea. He simply feels that the character was given a wonderful sendoff and that bringing him back in another movie or series would tarnish the legacy of his Steve Rogers story.
Who knows if we will ever see Evans back in the MCU, whether it’s as Johnny Storm or Steve Rogers. But fans can soon see Evans in his next movie on Netflix when The Gray Man premieres on the streaming service on July 22. Fans can first check out Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the new animated movie Lightyear, now playing in theaters.
