Hollywood superstar Chris Evans will return to Netflix for his next leading role. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Captain America star has just signed on to appear alongside Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place) in Pain Hustlers, a new action movie that’s currently in development at Netflix. David Yates (Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series) is also attached to direct the feature with the filmmaker describing the movie as something like The Wolf of Wall Street meets The Big Short. Wells Tower wrote the script.
Netflix reportedly shelled out $50 million for the movie, optimistic about its success on the streaming platform. It’s the first major Cannes Film Market deal for Netflix. Whether this all ends up paying off remains to be seen, but it certainly helps to have strong talent in the two leading roles. You can read a synopsis for Pain Hustlers below.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“The film centers on Liza Drake (Emily Blunt), a high-school dropout dreaming of a better life for her and her young daughter, who lands a job with a failing pharmaceutical start-up in a yellowing strip mall in Central Florida. Liza’s charm, guts and drive catapult the company and her into the high life, where she soon finds herself at the center of a criminal conspiracy with deadly consequences.”
Chris Evans Appears on Netflix in The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling
Netflix
This news comes shortly ahead of the premiere of Chris Evans’ next film, The Gray Man, which is also a Netflix movie. The action thrilller reunites Evans with Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo and co-stars Ryan Goslilng, Ana de Armas, Dhanush, Jessica Henwick, Alfre Woodard, Rege-Jean Page, and Billy Bob Thornton. This film had a tremendous budget and was priced at $200 million to produce, making it the most expensive movie ever made by the streamer.
“It does seem that I’ve aggressively gone 180 [degrees] from Steve Rogers. But it just kind of unfolded that way,” Evans previously told Empire about the movie, teasing that his character is far from his Captain America hero. “I love the Russos, and I’ll pretty much do anything they ask me to do. And this is a character I’ve never been able to play. He’s so liberated and free and honest. What I like about him is that you should almost fear his smile more than his scowl.”

But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.
