As expected by many – and strongly hinted at by his mom – Chris Evans has been mercilessly ridiculed for his “Sexiest Man Alive” accolade by his Marvel co-stars. While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his new series Limitless, Chris Hemsworth lifted the lid on exactly how he and his fellow Avengers reacted to the naming of Chris Evans as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. According to Hemsworth, the group chat used by the six original stars of 2012’s The Avengers became full of ridicule and ribbing towards Evans, including some things he could not repeat.

Evans appeared on the front of People Magazine when the results of this year’s annual naming of the sexiest man alive were made public. Following on from another Avengers star, Paul Rudd, it was inevitable that Evans would receive the same kind of treatment as Rudd did last year. The magazine was released last week, with Evans seen on the front cover, flexing and with his hand behind his back. Hemsworth explained that this was immediately something that was picked up on. He said:

While Evans may have been subjected to plenty of banter among his former co-stars, he had plenty of support from his mother Lisa, as well as his thousands of fans on social media who had nothing but nice things to say about him and his latest achievement.

“It very quickly was like, ‘What are you doing with your hands back there?’ [Robert] Downey [Jr] said he’s being arrested. I said it was a beautiful mugshot. Then Jeremy Renner said a series of things that we won’t repeat. It was filthy.”

Chris Evans ended his time as Captain America when Steve Rogers hung up his shield in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame. With Anthony Mackie now taking over the Captain America: New World Order role, how likely is it that we could see Evans donning the Stars and Stripes again? The actor recently spoke about missing the role, giving fans hope that thanks to the multiverse, there may yet be a way for him to return for one more appearance. Evans previously said:

Of course, the Multiverse Saga is only getting started, and there is a long way to go before it culminates with Avengers: Secret Wars. Whether there will be a role for Steve Rogers to play in the story is yet to be revealed, but as with everything Marvel-related, we never can really say never.

“They’re challenging, but the beauty is the movies are great. You get out what you put in. It’s been a wonderful, very symbiotic relationship, so I’ve been thrilled to do it. I think when the movies end you’re very happy to have a break. But very quickly, you miss it. I miss it now. But yeah, I’m very grateful and very happy to have been a part of them.”
