A new Wednesday Addams is coming to Netflix this fall and she has gotten the blessing of a prior Wednesday. Directed by Tim Burton making his small screen debut, Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as a new incarnation of the character made famous by The Addams Family. This new spinoff will put Wednesday into the central role the other Addamses slipping into supporting roles, bringing an all-new take to the franchise.

Many fans of The Addams Family are still quite fond of the original live-action movies which featured Christina Ricci in the Wednesday Addams role. Ricci has since been cast in a supporting role in Wednesday and was able to see first-hand her successor in action. Speaking about the series in a new interview, via Variety, Ricci described the production as “very fun” and had some glowing things to say about Ortega as Wednesday.

Fans were recently treated to their first official look at Ortega as Wednesday with a teaser video released by Netflix for its Geeked Week event. The series is expected to arrive this fall but Netflix has not officially announced a premiere date. Most likely it will arrive just in time for the Halloween season, if not before.

Jenna Ortega Brings a New Take on Wednesday Addams With the Netflix Series

Jenna Ortega has previously spoken out about why it was important for her to take on the role of Wednesday Addams. She explained that the character was created as Latina, that hasn’t been depicted in a live-action adaptation. Ortega hopes that her casting in Wednesday will be seen as an inspiration to others, happy with the representation that the new series brings to the Addams Family franchise. As she told Empire:
