The Wednesday panel at NYCC delivered a brand new trailer for the upcoming Netflix series based on The Addams Family, and as well as the secret of Uncle Fester’s casting finally being revealed the clip also brought a first look at Christina Ricci’s character in the Jenna Ortega-led series. Having played Wednesday Addams in two movies, Christina Ricci’s inclusion in the new Tim Burton series is something that fans of the star were elated about, and now they have been given a glimpse of Nevermore Academy teacher, Ms. Thornhill.

It was first announced back in March that Ricci would be joining the latest adaptation of the Charles Addams comic strip family, but rather than reprising her role as an older Wednesday, or taking on the fan-cast role of Morticia, it was revealed that she would have a completely new role. Now, those eagerly awaiting more details have been granted all they are likely to find out about Ms. Thornhill until the series premieres on Netflix on November 23.

Christina Ricci Was Thrilled To Be Asked To Be A Part of Wednesday

Tim Burton personally asked Christina Ricci to join the cast of Wednesday, something that the actress said she was “really flattered” by, and although many long-time fans were disappointed that she would not be revisiting her early 1990s role of the dour daughter of Morticia and Gomez, they should be more than happy with her happy performance as Ms. Thornhill, a polar opposite to the role of Wednesday. She previously said:

The logline of the new series reads:

“I was really flattered to be asked and to be asked by Tim. It’s nice to be a part of this next iteration of that character. It’s fun to watch and it’s fun to see other people’s takes on things and what they put of themselves into something like that. It’s super fun. I loved working with Tim [Burton]. I worked with Gwendolyn Christie; it was amazing. And Jenna [Ortega, who plays Wednesday] is incredible. I saw some of the wardrobe photos before I went, so I knew [what she looked like in character], and I was like, it’s such a great modern take on Wednesday. It’s so true tonally to the heart and soul of [the original], but then it’s incredibly modern, and it’s great.”

Netflix had previously not announced who would be playing the role of Uncle Fester in Wednesday, which was also revealed in the new trailer to be Fred Armisen. While it had originally been announced by Netflix and Tim Burton that the reveal would not be made until the show aired, it seems that many trending internet rumors of the role going to someone like Johnny Depp or even the return of Christopher Lloyd to the part of the eccentric brother of Gomez perhaps meant that another month would be too long to allow such speculation to grow.

“Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.”

Wednesday arrives on Netflix on November 23.
