Ryan Reynolds latest Netflix movie, The Adam Project, drops today. The film tells the story of a man who goes back in time to save humanity with the help of his child-self. As you would expect, Reynolds was not going to allow the movie to be released without making some kind of entertaining little promo with the help of a few friends. For that reason, we have been treated to a special PSA by Reynolds and his The Adam Project co-star Mark Ruffalo about Daylight Savings Time, which also enlists the knowledge of “time expert” Christopher Lloyd.

The video, which was shared on social media by Ruffalo, Reynolds and Netflix’s Geeked Twitter account, shows the film’s stars introducing Lloyd to explain his weekend’s loss of an hour.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Ryan and I have both played superheroes that have time traveled,” Ruffalo begins, before Reynolds continues,” And our new movie The Adam Project is about time travel so we felt obliged to do a public service announcement for daylight savings this weekend because we don’t want you to miss our movie.”

After pointing out that it doesn’t really matter to the Netflix movie as “there are no showtimes,” the pair introduce Lloyd who gives a speech “as epic as their film” about time. With dramatic music playing in the background, Lloyd launches into his equally dramatic monologue, saying:

You can check out the promo below, which ends with Reynolds and Ruffalo praising the Back to the Future star, before going on to add a bit of mockery for daylight savings itself.

“I know about time. I am 83 years old. To me, the years seem like minutes. Yet I do not dwell in memories. Because life is about moving forward. Not just into the future, into the unknown. This weekend we will lose an hour. But maybe we will gain some perspective. So as we leap ahead to whatever life holds, let us grab hands and be brave. Because despite what movies might have taught us… we can’t go back. “

The Adam Project Taps Into the 80s Vein That Originally Created Movies Like Back to the Future

Netflix has already proved how popular an 80’s themed premise can be with Stranger Things, a series that has pulled on every thread of the decade across three seasons and will continue to do so in the upcoming 4th season in a couple of months. Now The Adam Project is pulling off something similar, providing a thrilling time travel adventure that could have been made by Steven Spielberg in the mid-80s.

There is no doubt that nostalgia is a big crowd-pleaser, as has been seen recently with Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and the announcement that Michael Keaton would be reprising his DC role of Batman in The Flash and Batgirl movies. When it comes to The Adam Project, there are more than a few nods to famous movies of one of the most original and exciting decades of film, including the aforementioned Back to the Future, as well as Flight of the Navigator and The Goonies. As many reviews have said, the best thing you can do is just sit back and let it take you back to a time when Amblin Entertainment ruled the cinema. The Adam Project is playing now on Netflix.
