There’s more horror to come from the team behind Smile. With the hit horror film performing well with critics and at the box office, it has been announced (via Deadline) that the producers have now set their sights on developing Clown in a Cornfield. The plan is for Protagonist to sell the film at the American Film Market in Los Angeles. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill Entertainment are producing while Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Little Evil) is on board to direct.
Carter Blanchard is penning the script, though Clown in a Cornfield is based on the novel of the same name by Adam Cesare. The acclaimed book had a sequel, dubbed Clown in a Cornfield II: Frendo Lives, published in August with plans for another book on the way. Clown in a Cornfield does not yet have a release date. Meanwhile, the producers continue to ride the wave of Smile’s success. Even with Halloween Ends in theaters, Smile has managed to hold its own with positive reviews and word of mouth leading to more horror fans watching the movie. Clown in a Cornfield is another horror story with an interesting concept, though time will tell if it does just as well or better than what’s been happening with Smile.
