Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio has provided a relatively positive update on a sixth season, stating that he expects the popular Netflix series to be officially renewed “very soon.” Appearing on the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Macchio reveals that, while Cobra Kai Season 6 has not been announced yet, so long as viewers keep watching, then everything should be just fine.
While it is highly unlikely that Cobra Kai will add its name to the ever-growing list of canceled Netflix projects, creator Jon Hurwitz has said that the sixth season could be delayed. “We’re still working all that out with Sony and Netflix, and we don’t have an official Season 6 to announce yet,” he explained in September. “What we can say is that we’re constantly thinking about these characters. We are working on Obliterated right now for Sony and Netflix. We’re in our second month of production on that, and I think it’s going to blow people’s minds. But we’re hopeful that there’s going to be more Cobra Kai on the horizon. There may be a little bit more of a wait, potentially, just because we are in the midst of working on that other show, but it won’t be far behind, assuming everything goes as we’re expecting.”
“Yeah, we, truthfully, we have not been picked up for season six yet, which we think should happen very soon. But keep watching, you know, keep those numbers going.”

Ralph Macchio Has Teased the Karate Kid Cinematic Universe & Backs a Mr. Miyagi Prequel
Netflix
Cobra Kai has been a massive success since it began back in 2018, so it’s no wonder that Netflix is now looking to expand the franchise with spinoffs. Ralph Macchio has recently teased the emergence of the Karate Kid Cinematic Universe, saying, “The thing that’s been created, there’s kind of this Karate Kid Cinematic Universe now where Cobra Kai is, you know, at the center of that and when that day does come in for a landing, there are other areas to draw from.”
Macchio has even backed the idea of a prequel centered on a young Mr. Miyagi, Daniel’s sensei and mentor throughout the Karate Kid movies. “But it seems to me it’s just… How do we not explore the backstory of and the origin of Mr. Miyagi? And what happened?” he said. “What brought him to that place; working in that apartment in Reseda? What was his life before then? I think that would be fascinating.”
Cobra Kai picks up 34 years after the events of The Karate Kid franchise and focuses on a struggling Johnny Lawrence, now in his 50s, who works as a part-time handyman. A lot has happened since those humble beginnings, with karate now infecting the Valley like a disease. Following the shocking results of the All-Valley Tournament, the most recent series of Cobra Kai finds Terry Silver expanding the Cobra Kai empire and trying to make his “No Mercy” style of karate the only game in town. With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s caused; Daniel LaRusso must call on an old friend for help.
Starring Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Martin Kove, Peyton List, and Thomas Ian Griffith, the first five seasons of Cobra Kai are now available to stream on Netflix.
