“The only thing I had an idea was that I wasn’t nearly getting to explore the character as much as I wanted to. Because there was all this extraordinary work done by [makeup artists] Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine and his team, and I just thought it was the tip of the iceberg, pardon the pun, that we were getting to do the six or seven scenes that we did in the film. I was grateful for them, but I wanted more.”
Colin Farrell Leads The Penguin Spinoff in the Aftermath of The Batman
Colin Farrell stunned viewers with his remarkable transformation as the Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot in The Batman. His incredible performance, alongside Robert Pattinson and Paul Dano, made the iconic DC villain more popular than ever before. Taking advantage of this surge in popularity, HBO Max quickly announced a spinoff series that would continue director Matt Reeves’ and Pattinson’s Batverse story.
Farrell recently gave fans a sneak peek into what to expect from The Penguin with an interview on ExtraTV. He revealed that he had already read the script for the first episode, which begins just a week after The Batman concludes, as Gotham City deals with the flood from the movie’s third act. He also shared that we see him splashing through Falcone’s office at the start of the narrative, and he eventually takes on leadership of Falcone’s criminal empire after learning of his allegiances. Fans can look forward to an intriguing story that follows the aftermath of The Batman, with actress Cristin Milioti joining the cast as Sofia Falcone.
After deliberations and talks with producer Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell ultimately decided to pursue The Penguin spinoff series. However, what truly sealed the deal was the transformative work of makeup artists Marino and Fontaine, who successfully transformed Farrell into the iconic supervillain. Their incredible efforts made Farrell realize that this was a project worth pursuing.
According to Farrell, production on The Penguin series will begin in February and last about five or six months.
“Honest to god, any thought I had about an extended series was to do with Mike Marino’s work. I just knew there was so much to do with it — age it up, age it down. He’s just such a genius, Mike, so it was his work that was the inspiration, really.”
