Community fans rejoice, as the beloved comedy series is coming to Netflix very soon. The streaming service announced that the show will be arriving on April 1 which is, rather appropriately, April Fools’ Day. Netflix made the reveal in a tweet, sharing a clip from the show with the following caption.
“Community is coming to Netflix April 1st! No foolin'”

While the precise figure isn’t known at this time, it’s said that Netflix paid somewhere in the high eight-figure range for the streaming rights. But the deal was expensive since they secured rights globally. Hulu’s deal is set to run up in about a year. At that point, they could renew, or just let the rights go. At least for a time though, it will be available on multiple platforms. Community, which was created by Dan Harmon, ran for six seasons, originally airing on NBC, for a total of 110 episodes.
Community centers on a group of friends who meet at the questionable educational institution Greendale Community College where they all participate in a study group. At the group’s center is Jeff Winger, a lawyer who was caught with a phony college degree and was disbarred. So, he decides to attend Greendale to get his degree, assuming he can breeze through the mediocre school with ease. However, he soon becomes the leader of a group of misfits who are all stuck at Greendale for different reasons. The cast includes Joel McHale, Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi and Jim Rash.
The series was critically heralded and found a loyal audience, despite not being a huge winner in the ratings department. This arguably couldn’t have come at a better time for Netflix, or fans of the show, as many people are cooped up indoors right now practicing social distancing to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Community could make for a great binge-watching option, either for those who have never seen it, or for fans who just want to revisit life at Greendale.
