Fans shouldn’t give up hopes on the Community happening just yet, as the show’s creator Dan Harmon is still confident that it will come to fruition one day. After originally airing its first five seasons on NBC, Community had a bonus sixth and final season via Yahoo! Screen that streamed in 2015. In the years since, there have been rumors and rumblings of a feature film continuation, but it just can’t seem to make its way out of development hell.

Just recently, series star Alison Brie reignited fan hopes for the Community movie with a promising update on its progress. Speaking about the situation on WrapWomen’s “UnWrapped” podcast, Brie confirmed that “there’s been some talks” about the film and that the “wheels are turning” on the project. In a new interview with TheWrap, Harmon backs up Brie by confirming that there are currently talks about the Community film happening behind the scenes, and that he even has a story in place for the planned movie.

While he is clearly optimistic, Harmon still offers a warning to some fans who might be expecting this Community movie to be just around the corner. Harmon explains that he still has no idea exactly when the film will materialize, even if he’s sure he’ll get to it one day.

So, clearly, there is no timeline in place for when Dan Harmon expects to assemble the old gang back together for a Community feature film. With that said, Harmon insists that it’s a matter of “when,” a question he still doesn’t have the answer to. Fans will need to just sit tight for a while longer.

Community featured an ensemble cast including Alison Brie, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, and Jim Rash. Chevy Chase also spent several seasons on the series before departing; he was later replaced by Jonathan Banks, though his own tenure was also limited. Paget Brewster and Keith David joined the show in season 6.
