Released last year and described as a delightful comedy romp, Confess, Fletch sees Mad Men actor Jon Hamm taking over from Chevy Chase as the roguishly charming and endlessly troublesome Fletch, who becomes the prime suspect in a murder case while searching for a stolen art collection. The only way to prove his innocence? Find out which of the long list of suspects is the culprit–from the eccentric art dealer and a missing playboy to a crazy neighbor and Fletch’s Italian girlfriend. MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Directed by Greg Mottola, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Zev Borow, and based on Gregory Mcdonald’s 1976 novel of the same name, Confess, Fletch stars Lorenza Izzo, Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle MacLachlan, Roy Wood Jr. and John Slattery alongside Hamm.

Confess, Fletch was released in a limited theatrical release and on premium video on demand in September 2022 before landing on Showtime in October. The movie, which is actually the third installment in the Fletch series following Fletch in 1985 and Fletch Lives in 1989, was met with favorable reviews from critics. Much of the praise was sent Hamm’s way, with many loving seeing the actor displaying his comedic chops in a lead role, while others praised the funny script and its successful revival of the franchise.

Despite this, a rather tepid box office taking means that Confess, Fletch 2 has not yet been given the go-ahead.

Confess, Fletch 2 Will Take Inspiration from the Novel Fletch’s Fortune

     Showtime

Clearly, Mottola is hoping that Confess, Fletch will receive a follow-up, with the writer revealing in his post that Confess, Fletch 2 will be based on the third novel in the Fletch series, Fletch’s Fortune. The novel finds the titular Irwin Maurice “Fletch” Fletcher living away from the world of journalism on the French Riviera. Developing a killer tan and sleeping with the neighbor’s wife, Fletch is feeling pretty flush. That is until agents Eggers and Fabens show up with a little more information about Fletch than is comfortable and an invitation to the American Journalism Alliance convention.

So, Fletch suddenly finds himself enlisted as a spy amongst his journalistic peers. But before he can even set up his surveillance, there’s a murder. And almost everybody’s a suspect. Because a lot of people were employed by Walter March, and most of them had a reason to hate him.

How closely Confess, Fletch 2 will stick to the source material remains to be seen (or may never be seen), but audiences would no doubt love to see Jon Hamm at the center of this murder mystery.
