It seems to be a trend in Hollywood that stars of some of the most loved, long-running TV shows don’t actually have as much of a connection with the characters that made them famous as many fans would like to think. William Shatner recently spoke about how he has not seen many of the Star Trek episodes he starred in and fans tend to know a lot more about the series than he does. Now Friends actress Courteney Cox has made a similar comment, claiming that she doesn’t remember shooting much of the show, even some episodes and scenes that are among the most iconic of the 90s series.
Courteney Cox was already established as an actress by the time she took on the role of Monica in Friends, but it was a role that became her most popular and brought her to the attention of millions across its 10 seasons. However, it seems that filming on the series didn’t have quite as lasting an impact on the star as much as the fans who constantly rewatch episodes over and over again, as Cox told Willie Geist on Today that during last years’ reunion special there were a number of clips shown that she had no recollection of shooting. She said:

Despite making one of her earliest appearances in Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark music video and the live-action Masters of the Universe movie with Dolph Lundgren in the mid-80s, it was her role in Friends in 1994 that gave her a big break, one that was followed up by her starring role in Wes Craven’s slasher movie Scream. Her appearance in all five Scream movies brought Cox to a whole new audience, and her recent return for Scream earlier this year has brought her back to the horror world for another successful outing as Gale Weathers, but that is not her only foray into the genre with her new comedy-horror series Shining Vale currently playing on Starz.
Shining Vale sees Cox playing Patricia Phelps, an author of raunchy novels who moves to a small town with her dysfunctional family. Arriving in their new home, a house that has been linked to several atrocities in the past, the only person who seems to think something is amiss in the property and that the demons there are more real than anyone seems to believe. Featuring many Easter egg links to Stephen King’s The Shining and the Stanley Kubrick movie based on the novel, the show has gained many positive reviews and again pushed Cox in a new career direction.
