Michael B. Jordan’s return as Adonis Creed has been the latest movie to delay its release by a number of months, with Creed III now eyeing a 2023 release. In a new report by Variety, the latest addition to the Rocky franchise will now debut in theaters on March 3, 2023, instead of its previous November 22, 2022 release date. While this moves the film away from Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was set to open just over a week before Creed III, it will instead go toe to toe with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Creed III will be the latest movie in the Rocky spin-off series, and while Michael B. Jordan is once again back in the titular role as the fighter son of Apollo Creed, Sylvester Stallone has decided to duck and dive on this one and does not reprise his iconic role as Rocky Balboa. However, Creed stars Tessa Thompson, and Phylicia Rashad will be one again playing Bianca and Mary Anne Creed, respectively, while the MCU’s new big bad Jonathan Majors will also be stirring up trouble as Creed III’s main antagonist.

Although there has been no reason given for the movie’s delay, Creed III is the directorial debut of Jordan, and the additional time could just help him create exactly the movie he wants to. Having become dedicated to the franchise, fans shouldn’t worry too much as the wait will no doubt be worth it to see the next chapter in the story.

Creed is Getting Its Own Spin-Off Drago Movie

     MGM/UA Entertainment Company

Just as Creed developed from the Rocky franchise before it, the series is now spawning its own spin-off in the form of Drago, a movie that will focus on Ivan and Viktor Drago, played respectively by franchise veteran Dolph Lundgren and Creed 2’s Florian Munteanu. Details of the new spin-off were reported earlier this week and ultimately stems from comments made by Lundgren last year that MGM was considering a new spin-off franchise around the Dragos.

Last year, Rocky IV, which first brought Lundgren’s Drago to the franchise, was released as a new director’s cut by Stallone and this has probably gone some way to also help push MGM in the direction of the new movie. While there are very few details known about the film, it is believed it will follow on from 2018’s Creed 2, and will give Lundgren another chance to further flesh out his character after he did not come across as much more than an emotionless monster in Rocky IV. He previously told THR:

It is likely to be at least a couple of years before we see Drago hit theaters, by which time Creed III will have made its mark in March 2023.

“When I played the character, I did a backstory about how he was brought up by the state and they controlled him. He didn’t have much say. He wasn’t really an evil person; he was just a product of the system. He’s Frankenstein’s monster. He’s not Dr. Frankenstein; that was the Soviet Union. So I always played that, and some of that came across in ’85. Sly and I are friends, but now, I guess he wanted to show the other side of the character. So I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.”
