The new Criminal Minds series has its official title: Criminal Minds: Evolution. Variety reports that the title reveal comes with the addition of Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights, Midnight Mass) to the cast as a recurring guest star. Gilford will reportedly be playing Elias Voit, an “operations analyst for a global cyber-security firm who has a dark side and an obsession with death.” The reboot series premieres this fall on Paramount+.
Gilford is well known for starring in the TV series Friday Night Lights, though he more recently appeared in the Netflix horror series Midnight Mass. The actor is teaming back up with Mike Flanagan for the upcoming Netflix series The Fall of the House of Usher. Gilford has also been seen in movies like Devil’s Due and The Purge: Anarchy with his other TV credits including This Close, Good Girls, and L.A.’s Finest.

Also part of the cast of Criminal Minds: Evolution will be returning cast members reprising their roles, such as Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, A.J. Cook as Jennifer Jareau, Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, Aisha Tyler as Tara Lewis, Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez, and Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss. Erica Messer serves as showrunner of the series and executive produces alongside Breen Frazier, Christopher Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon.
Criminal Minds Brings Back Joe Mantegna and Other Returning Cast Members

“We’re going to be on Paramount+, so we just started season 16 after a two-year hiatus," Mantegna said of the show’s return in an interview with WGN Radio. “And we’re all thrilled to be back. And it’s a good group, a great group. I’ve been there for 13 seasons, and I’m glad to be back, and we look forward to new episodes out there. And our fanbase is so wonderful all over the world. I think that’s what helped bring us back,”
In a separate interview with Screen Rant, he credited the fans for the show’s revival by adding, “That’s the success of Criminal Minds. That’s why people like the show. Because they watch the show and they realize thank god we have these people who take care of the problems that are caused, that are portrayed in this programming.”
