D23, the ultimate Disney fan expo, is happening September 9th through 11th, and everyone is set for some big MCU announcements. D23 is a chance for Disney to feature more of its upcoming projects in a festival created just for itself. There are plenty of questions we hope to have answered, but Marvel fans are hoping for a lot more facts to be revealed about the MCU’s future. There are plenty of projects up in the air that we can’t wait to get info about. Everyone wants to know about the X-Men and Fantastic Four, but Marvel may have some other tricks up its sleeve.
D23 is expected to hold the keys to many things that fans have been wondering, and clues as to which announcements we’ll hear have been hidden all over the place. D23’s official poster has 58 Easter eggs for various Disney shows and movies. Spider-Man has taken a prominent place in D23 advertising, while Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was teased as part of Disney’s D23 Twitter countdown. There have been many rumors about what the MCU might be doing in the coming years, from Giancarlo Esposito being cast as Professor X to a possible hint at World War Hulk from the Disney+ series She-Hulk.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Hopefully, we’ll get a lot of new info, but here’s everything Marvel we hope to see at D23.
Will John Krasinski Return to the MCU?
Marvel Studios
The past year has been exciting for Marvel fans, and recent productions have created a lot of buzz for the MCU. Some of the fans’ big questions include whether John Krasinski will keep his role as Mr. Fantastic. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we saw Krasinski in an exciting reveal as he teleported into the MCU as Reed Richards. But then, he was immediately killed by Scarlet Witch. Krasinski was a fan favorite for the role before the movie, and now people hope to see him play Mr. Fantastic in the future.
But with such a quick death, it’s hard to tell whether or not Krasinski is done with the MCU or if it was just a fan-service cameo. Maybe Disney will use D23 to clear up some confusion surrounding the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie coming in 2024.
Will We Learn More About X-Men and the Wolverine Easter Egg?
20th Century Fox
Another title fans hope to see more info about is X-Men. There have been incessant rumors since Disney acquired full rights to the X-Men. Patrick Stewart reprises his old role as Professor X alongside Krasinski in Multiverse of Madness, and it was a sight to see. But people have wondered how Marvel will bring the X-Men into the MCU. Ms. Marvel hinted at the franchise when they revealed that she was a mutant. She-Hulk recently had a tiny Easter egg about Wolverine hidden in a newspaper. No X-Men movie was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, so it remains to be seen where the X-Men might appear.
A big rumor is that Giancarlo Esposito might play Professor X in the upcoming films. And everyone is hoping to find out who will be cast as the new Wolverine. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine showed up in the Disney+ Twitter account during their countdown to D23, so we think there might be some X-Men-related news ahead.
Poster Easter Eggs and Phase 5 Cast Rumors
Walt Disney Pictures
Amid all the mystery, there have been nuggets of information. Disney has kept releasing hints and nods toward their announcements with everything they do to build excitement for the event. The official D23 poster hints at Spider-Man and a Nova Corps spaceship from Guardians of the Galaxy. Everyone is looking forward to more news about Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. We might also see some announcements about the Thunderbolts team-up.
There have been rumors circulating on social media that started from a post by Emmet Kennedy (@RadioEmmet). It states that Marvel has hired an astounding list of actors who are fan favorites for certain roles. But don’t be so quick to believe the hype. The sports commentator, known for his work in horse racing, says he is “reliably informed” about this Marvel announcement. However, Disney has not confirmed any of this. Many other comic book news sources have rushed to publish about the tweet since the news is so exciting. But along with some actors saying they had no desire to work in the MCU, the list simply seems too good to be true.
According to the official D23 schedule, most ground-shaking announcements will probably come during the Studio Showcase on the morning of Saturday, September 10th. There will likely be news concerning Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur since they have their own panel later that day. But aside from the hints and little Easter eggs, Disney has kept fairly tight-lipped on what will be highlighted at D23. Still, we’ve got high hopes for everything happening during the weekend.
