The D23 expo is Disney’s exclusive fan event of the year. Lucasfilm is lined up to host a panel that will hopefully give us some fun reveals about upcoming Star Wars projects. Next year is a big one for the franchise. With Disney+ shows like Andor, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, and season 3 of The Mandalorian, everyone is hyped for some exciting announcements.
Lucasfilm and Star Wars fans can expect to be presently surprised at D23. Disney’s original announcement for the panel assures that those in attendance will see some surprise guests and exclusive footage of upcoming projects. Lucasfilm will share a panel with Marvel on the morning of Saturday, September 10th, so expect social media to explode with sneak peeks later that day. There are plenty of new shows in the works at Disney, and we have not heard much about several of them. This may be the right time to release some important info about some of the least talked about shows in production. It may also be the right time to let Star Wars fans know some secret facts about the shows we’re most excited for.

More Information About Lesser-Known Star Wars Projects
Lucasfilm Ltd.
The most recent line of announcements came with the Star Wars Celebration, which was back in May. So, we can expect a lot of progress has been made since then. We heard updates on Bad Batch season 2, Tales of the Jedi, and Star Wars: Visions Volume 2, but now we’re hoping for some info on the projects that are a bit farther out. The Star Wars panel might clue us to shows like Ahsoka, Lando, or The Acolyte. Skeleton Crew is also one we are all curious about. The show is geared more toward a younger audience and centers around a group of ordinary kids who are thrust into the Star Wars universe.
An exciting time in the Star Wars universe takes place before A New Hope. Tales of the Jedi, Bad Batch, Andor, and Lando occur during this time. We might hope to hear something about Rogue Squadron as well. The Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars film was announced long ago and has slowly fallen off the radar. Meant to be a follow-up to Rogue One, Rogue Squadron is still scheduled to be released in December 2023, but some believe the movie might be dead.
Better news will hopefully come for projects like Lando, which had just started filming before this year’s Star Wars Celebration and has likely moved up in Disney’s priorities. D23 might see the release of an exclusive trailer or some behind-the-scenes footage for Donald Glover’s Star Wars character. We’re also hoping to hear some more concrete info about two of Lucasfilm’s most mysterious projects: The Acolyte, which takes place deep in the past of the timeline during the age of the High Republic, and Star Wars: Lost Horizons, which happens far in the future, decades after the destruction of the Empire.
Release Dates for The Mandalorian and Boba Fett
Disney
In recent years, Star Wars shows have been organized by the major timelines in which they take place. Everything is based around the Battle of Yavin when the Rebels destroyed the second Death Star at the end of Return of the Jedi. Many of the new shows we want to learn about take place around the same time as The Mandalorian, after the Battle of Yavin. Hopefully, we’ll get a solid release date for The Mandalorian season 3, as well as updates on The Book of Boba Fett season 2, all of which take place in this era of the New Republic.
More Details on Celebration Reveals
There are certainly a lot of upcoming Star Wars projects, and Dave Filoni and the rest of Lucasfilm’s staff have been busy. Everyone is talking about the newest addition to the canon: Andor. But with plenty of other upcoming shows taking place all over the Star Wars universe for fans both young and old, there will be a lot to discuss. Disney has a few surprises planned for those in attendance as well.
Here is the official D23 announcement:
So, those going to the expo might be privy to some pretty cool information. But for the rest of us, it would be nice to see an extensive release schedule, like Disney did for the MCU at San Diego Comic-Con. President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, said in March that they talked with filmmakers about making more projects they would reveal at Celebration. Now that some time has passed, there might be more progress on these talks, and D23 could be Lucasfilm’s opportunity to show a few more new things they’ve put in the pipeline since May.
