We all love a good reboot and this one made its way front and center at this year’s D23 Expo! The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder took to the D23 stage, and we cannot be more excited for this show to come back to life in its second season. A revival of an animated classic show is not an easy thing to do. Audience interests change, demographics change, and trends change. However, this reboot is one of the best examples of how to successfully adapt to a changing world and come out with something incredibly special. And, in the entertainment industry, that is not always easy.

On Day 3 of the convention, the cast of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder came together to talk about the new season and what that means to fans of the original series as well as the cast members themselves. Animated shows are a staple of any childhood, and this one is not one to miss. Make sure you check out everything we know about The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, a little insight into the panel held at the convention, and more on why you should be excited about the next season.

What To Expect

     Alyssa Gawaran

Expect the unexpected! The Prouds are back, and they are better than ever. Producers Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar emphasize the importance of the storytelling and development of these characters in the panel at D23 Expo. The cast delves deeper into the show’s successful incorporation of social issues and commentaries for the younger demographic they are targeting, while also remaining light-hearted, fun, and engaging. There is a sense that the show will unapologetically address social issues in a way that is not as heavy as it is in traditional media. With all the fun and hilarious interactions between characters, audiences will also be forced to listen, learn, and pay attention to things that matter in their own lives and in the lives of people around them. No matter what happens with Penny Proud and her friends and family, expect this to be a show for all generations with characters we can all relate to, connect with, and learn from. Nostalgia at Its Peak

     Disney

The first episode of Disney Channel’s The Proud Family came out in 2001 and for children born in the 90s and early 2000s, it is near impossible to get Suga Momma’s voice out of our heads. This show instantly became a Disney classic and broke ground in POC representation in children’s TV, and more specifically, in animation. Now, decades later, new generations of children get to fall in love with characters some of us once knew and love through a whole new lens. Talk about nostalgia! Getting a reboot right means reaching out to fans of the original as well as the following generations and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is just that: louder and definitely prouder.

The 5-Star Cast

Now, as fans of the original, this show has no problems, not a single flaw in its casting. Just to start off, the original voices from the show return for the reboot, and it is everything we could ever want and then some. Kyla Pratt returns as Penny Proud, Jo Marie Payton is back as Suga Mama, Tommy Davidson as Oscar, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey, and even Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevarde to name a few. Not only that, but The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder also features some new characters like Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins voiced by Keke Palmer, and Michael voiced by EJ Johnson. Also expect to have some very special guest stars and their voices appear in the upcoming season. That touch of the original show with the original cast paired with some bright, new, and refreshing voices is a huge contributor to this show’s current and future success and February cannot come any faster?
