While some on social media aren’t happy, Netflix will double down on the true crime craze by ordering another two seasons of its Monster anthology series. Beginning with Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Monster was developed as a limited series by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Because the series has proven to be a smash success for the streamer, rising to become one of its most-streamed shows of all time, Netflix has officially ordered two more seasons of Monster. Future installments will tell the stories of “other monstrous figures who have impacted society,” though it hasn’t yet been revealed who seasons 2 and 3 will follow.

While Dahmer was a success in terms of viewership, it was also not without its controversy. Many people online had criticized Netflix for putting the spotlight on Dahmer, feeling that it was disrespectful to the victims and their families. With news of a renewal coming in, some are already taking to Twitter to declare their frustrations in more of Monster in the works at Netflix, perhaps fearing that other seasons will do the same with other monstrous criminals that Dahmer is said to have done for Jeffrey Dahmer.

“if you were so desperate to watch Dahmer you could’ve just pirated it, nobody would’ve known, you could’ve satisfied your desire to watch the show without encouraging Netflix to make more of it, but noooooo now we have to sit through two more,” one person writes on Twitter.

Responding to another person seemingly left bewildered by the news, another Twitter user wrote, “fr like Netflix keeps making serial killer shows, people keep watching em, then Netflix makes more like, especially with Jeffrey Dahmer literally none of the people who were victims of it responded to Netflix and they keep making more its so sick.”

“ain’t no way…the worst part is that y’all will still be tuned in,” says someone else. “the families did not agree for the dahmer series to be done in the first place and considering how some bits of the stories were just added or miss-told this is terrible news.”

And as someone else puts it, “Netflix saw all the families of victims say that the Dahmer show re-traumatized them and said ’two more seasons’ because what is morality anymore.”

People Are Joking That Ryan Murphy Is Launching a Murderer Multiverse

Some people on social media are lambasting Netflix for the renewal, while others see an opportunity to crack some jokes about the recent multiverse trend in movies. There are many tweets of people jokingly imagining a multiverse bringing together Evan Peters’ Jeffrey Dahmer to meet other infamous serial killers from throughout American history.

“Can’t wait for Samuel L. Jackson to bring Dahmer, BTK, and the Zodiac together to defeat a reincarnated H.H. Holmes. And the big reveal that space Jack the Ripper was behind it all,” one tweet reads.

And another post on Twitter stated, “we’re gonna end up with a Ryan Murphy freddy vs. jason but it’s dahmer vs. bundy or something equally evil aren’t we?”

In any case, it’s clear that the news of Monster getting renewed is getting a lot of people talking on social media. And as that had apparently didn’t stop Dahmer from finding big success on Netflix, chances are the streamer will be moving forward with their plans for another two seasons of Monster.
