Lost and Watchmen writer Damon Lindelof is currently working on a Star Wars movie; it has now been confirmed. More details of this mysterious Star Wars project have now been unveiled, revealing that the project will be sent after the events of the divisive Disney trilogy and is being planned as a standalone movie with the potential to spawn further adventures.
Coming courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, sources have stated that Lindelof’s Star Wars project “is intended as a stand-alone but in success could lead to more movies.” The report adds that “the story would take place after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” but it will “not be a continuation of the Skywalker saga.” Though it could feature “some of the characters” that were introduced during the events of The Force Awakens in 2015, The Last Jedi in 2017, and finally, The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

Should these sources turn out to be correct, this would make Lindelof’s Star Wars movie the first to take place beyond the Disney trilogy, which saw the fanbase divided following the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi and then divided again after Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker hit the silver screen.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Has Teased the Return of Star Wars Sequel Characters
Lucasfilm Ltd.
While the Star Wars saga has yet to return to the sequel years, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has previously teased the return of the newly introduced characters. “We’re moving further beyond the existing sequels as we look to our movie space,” Kennedy said back in May. “The sequel era] is what we talk a lot about in terms of where we’re going with our movies, and just how far out from that we’ll go. That’s very much the space we’re concentrating on.”
If Lindelof’s Star Wars movie does indeed return to the world created in the Disney sequel trilogy, but not the Skywalker Saga, then this would suggest that the likes of Daisy Ridley’s Rey, John Boyega’s Finn, and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron will take center stage and craft their own stories away from the legacy characters. Of course, they were not the only characters introduced to a galaxy far, far away (and some of the actors concerned have stated they have no interest in coming back for more), with Lindelof having a whole host of new faces and worlds to play with. If nothing else, it should hopefully prove interesting to see what has happened to the galaxy following the conclusion of the Disney trilogy.
Damon Lindelof will work alongside fellow writer Justin Britt-Gibson, with Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy tapped to helm the Star Wars project. Lindelof is expected to bring the same twists and turns that he has demonstrated in the likes of Lost, Watchmen, and The Leftovers to the iconic franchise.
Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie does not yet have a release date, though reports have claimed that it could get the December 2025 release date that has been carved out in the calendar.
