Community creator Dan Harmon has announced that despite the television show turning into a movie that will release on Peacock, fans should not expect to see their favorite scenes recreated. Harmon said, “Would anything ever capture the joy of the original paintball episode?” Variety reports that Harmon revealed details about the Community film on today’s episode of Six Seasons & a Podcast. Harmon says that certain compromises had to be made because the movie format allows for less time.
Harmon additionally says that times have changed since the paintball episode, and with the rise of school shootings nationwide, scenes like the paintball sequence are harder to justify. “You’re running around with guns in a school, which was never a good idea on TV even back then,” he said. “How can we do that in a way that’s acceptable?
“It’s one of the first things to rule out because it’s the first thing off the top of your head, and that’s an issue with the Community movie concept. We did a lot of episodes where you are joyfully locked into a construct that isn’t a traditional sitcom narrative but is rather through the lens of David Fincher or Martin Scorsese.”

The six seasons of Community featured many parodies with sequences that spoofed everything from Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons, and Die Hard.
What to Expect in The Community Movie
NBC
Despite not featuring the paintball sequence, there will be plenty of familiarity for fans to return to when the Community movie releases in 2023. Cast members from the series, which had its final episode aired in 2015, include Joel McHale (Mortal Combat Legends: Scorpions Revenge), Danny Pudi (Captain America), Alison Brie (Glow), Gillian Jacobs (Black or White), Jim Rash (The Possibilities) and Ken Jeong (Ride Along 2) will all be returning. However, cast members Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown are in talks, but Chevy Chase is not yet attached to the project.
Harmon has revealed that the community college will not be shut down and the characters will not be reunited in a reunion but that there will be a reason they are brought together.
Details of the Community movie’s plot are still under wraps.
“They haven’t been together in a long time, but it’s not because they swore each other off…there’s a reason to get together, and there’s a reason they have to stay together.”
