Krapopolis: The Plot
FOX TV
Krapopolis is an animated comedy set in mythical Ancient Greece by creator Dan Harmon, who right now is busy with the Community movie, centered on a flawed family of humans, gods, and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.
The official synopsis sheds some more light on the show’s premise, though not too much, as it says:
Whenever a show mentions Ancient Greece, a fan’s mind will inevitably remember Hercules, but it seems that Krapopolis is going to be a series far removed from the heroism that name evokes. Likewise, it also seems like a show far removed from the Disney animated film since Krapopolis is defined as an animated comedy for adults. So fans can expect both humor and storylines not suitable for kids.
It’s not easy being king. As someone trying to build one of the first cities from scratch, King Tyrannis has it harder than most. But you can be king without having to take a bunch of meetings and the constant threat of being poisoned.
Krapopolis: The Cast
Krapopolis features the voices of Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy, and Duncan Trussell. Ayoade voices “Tyrannis,” the mortal son of a goddess. He’s the benevolent King of Krapopolis trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Waddingham plays “Deliria,” Tyrannis’ mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family – forged in patricide and infidelity – she’s known as the trashy one.
Berry is “Shlub,” Tyrannis’ father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He is oversexed and underemployed, claims to be an artist, and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of that word, for his entire life. Murphy voices “Stupendous,” Tyrannis’ half-sister, daughter of Deliria, and a cyclops. Trussell plays “Hippocampus,” Tyrannis’ half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess.
Krapopolis also has names like Dove Cameron, Tara Strong, Alanna Ubach, and Stephanie Beatriz as recurring cast members. As guest stars, fans will recognize the voices of Susan Sarandon, Will Forte, Michael Urie, Jane Lynch, Amber Stevens West, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Dave Franco. Although the details of the characters they will voice are not yet known, it is clear that they will live up to the big names they will lend their voices to. Perhaps there is a nod to Rick and Morty in these characters? Who knows.
Release Date
Regarding the release date of Krapopolis, in July 2022, in the middle of San Diego Comic-Con, Fox announced the series is scheduled to premiere with a special preview episode on November 27, 2022. After that episode, which will serve as the first contact for fans with Krapopolis, the show is set to have its official premiere in 2023.
The specific date on which Krapopolis will be released is still unknown. Since the animated show will be presented to the world in November, it seems logical to think that it will arrive in the first months of 2023 so that not too much time passes between the special episode and the official premiere. In this way, the conversation between fans and the buzz on social media will remain stable.
And the best news is that Krapopolis has already been renewed for season 2!
