A new trailer has arrived for season 31 of Dancing with the Stars, providing an early peek at the show’s streaming debut. Back in April, it was reported that the long-running dancing competition series would be moving from its home at ABC over to the streaming platform Disney+. It marks the first series for Disney+ that will be streamed live, and as it’s part of a two-season order, a 32nd season is also guaranteed to follow the upcoming season.

Per Deadline, Alfonso Ribeiro and Tyra Banks will be serving as co-hosts for season 31; Ribeiro had previously been featured as a contestant while Banks made her hosting debut with season 29. The judges’ dais includes Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough. The series is produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions.

“Dancing with the Stars has been such an important part of my life for so many years, and I am ecstatic to officially re-join this tight-knit family as co-host,” Ribeiro noted in a statement when he joined the series during the summer.

Banks, who previously appeared alongside Ribeiro on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, added: “I’ve known Alfonso since I was 19 years old and he always puts a smile on my face whenever I see him. Having such a fun-loving, longtime friend as co-host warms my heart. Bantering back and forth with him live is going to be so much fun!”

The celebrity cast members for season 31 have not yet been revealed, and the trailer above shows clips from past seasons. The plan is for the cast to be formally announced on Good Morning America on Sept. 8, 2022, ahead of the show’s premiere on Sept. 19. It has been revealed that season 31 will include professional dancers Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, Artem Chigvintsev, Witney Carson, Brandon Armstrong, and Cheryl Burke.

Dancing with the Stars Made the Switch to Streaming

     Disney+

With the move to Disney+, the hope is for Dancing with the Stars to grow in popularity by becoming available on streaming. When the news was announced, Disney Media chairman Kareem Daniel released a statement noting that the show’s consistent inclusions of Disney-themed material make Disney+ that much more perfect as the new home for the series.

“Dancing with the Stars has entertained fans for 16 years on ABC, and we are excited to bring this beloved show exclusively to Disney+ as the platform’s first-ever live series,” Daniel said. “The show’s broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights, make Disney+ the perfect home for Dancing with the Stars while continuing to expand our demographic reach.”

Dancing with the Stars will debut season 31 on Sept. 19, 2022.
