You can only ask Daniel Radcliffe about Wolverine so many times before he’ll decide to start having fun with how he responds. Ever since the X-Men movie series concluded with a subsequent announcement that the mutants would be rebooted for the MCU, there has been a lot of speculation over who might be playing Wolverine, one of the superhero group’s most popular characters. The gruff mutant has notably been played by Hugh Jackman for the past two decades, which will include an upcoming return to the role for Deadpool 3, but we’ll still most likely see a recasting of the role for when the new X-Men arrive.
At various points, there have been rumors of Harry Potter alum Radcliffe getting the role. In a new interview with GQ, Radcliffe comes clean by admitting that he’s often been the one fueling those rumors himself, but not necessarily because he’s campaigning for the part. As Radcliffe explains, he just tends to get bored after answering that question the same way so many times, leading him to tease something to the casting despite having no talks with Marvel Studios. Radcliffe suggests that maybe he should just stop doing interviews about it.
He Likes Weird Roles, But Would Daniel Radcliffe Want to Play Wolverine?
The Roku Channel
Something like Wolverine would be different for Radcliffe. As we can tell by him appearing as “Weird Al” Yankovic in the Roku film WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story, along with some of the interesting roles he’s played in indie films since his Harry Potter days, it’s clear that Radcliffe loves to play unique characters. The only issue with something like Wolverine is that it may lock him down into the franchise for a while, and he’s concerned about taking on any long-term roles. As Radcliffe says in the GQ interview:
Time will tell on what happens with Wolverine in the MCU, though it won’t be long before fans can see Radcliffe in his next starring role. WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story will be coming to Roku next month, and the film may be showing Radcliffe in what is his weirdest role to date. You can catch it streaming on The Roku Channel starting on Nov. 4, 2022.
