It seems that Daredevil: Born Again was not part of Kevin Feige’s original pitch to Charlie Cox when he decided to bring the actor back to the Marvel fold. While it was not too far outside the realm of possibility to believe that Cox was offered his own MCU Daredevil series, it seems the truth was actually the reverse. Cox recently explained that when he had his first chat with Feige, it was to return in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, with a hint of more to come at some point in the future. Speaking recently to Entertainment Weekly, Cox explained:
“I got a call very out of the blue and unexpected from Kevin Feige in June of 2020. I didn’t have a previous relationship with Kevin because when we were doing the show before, that was over at Marvel Television, not Marvel Studios, so although I’d met him on one occasion, I really didn’t know him at all. He called me up during the pandemic and said that they’d like to bring my character back and would I be interested in playing him. I didn’t take too long to think about that. And he said at the time that they wanted to put me in Spider-Man and in She-Hulk. But that was all they knew for now, that there would probably be something coming up after that, but they didn’t know what it was.
I had to wait six months before we even got to shoot Spider-Man, and then we shot She-Hulk shortly after that. It wasn’t until the end of last year or the beginning of this year even that I heard from Kevin and a couple of other guys at Marvel that they had another project in the works and that they would be letting me know what that was and when it would take place in the future, and so a couple of months ago I found out about the Daredevil: Born Again show, which is very exciting.”
Daredevil: Born Again Will Not Continue The Netflix Series

As with any older Marvel project, there were immediate questions asked about whether the Defenders Saga was canon to the MCU and whether any future projects with those characters and actors involved would continue the stories set down in their previous iterations. While the multiverse has opened up an instant “get out of jail free” card, with multiple “variants” of older characters being able to be explained away as happening in another reality, Cox previously explained exactly where Daredevil: Born Again will sit in relation to its Netflix counterpart. It the most part, it seems the clue is in the name. Cox previously commented:

For those who still have to see Charlie Cox’s original outing as Daredevil, the former Marvel TV series and the whole Defenders Saga is available on Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again is set to be released in 2024.
“It is a Season 1, it is not Season 4, so it is a whole new thing. Which I think is the way to go. If you are going to do it again, do it differently.”
