The Marvel Netflix series, Daredevil, is well-regarded for its brutally violent depiction of the titular vigilante, but now that the character has been folded into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, will the character now need to fight crime in a more familiar friendly manner? Well, according to returning star Charlie Cox, he would support a PG-13 approach to Daredevil, with the actor believing that if anyone can pull it off, it’s Marvel Studios.
The critically acclaimed Daredevil Netflix series, as well as the likes of The Punisher, Jessica Jones, and the rest of The Defenders, were able to make things more adult-oriented when adapting the Marvel material on the streaming service. But, now that the characters have left the land of Netflix for the world of Disney, fans are expecting to see some bloodless fight scenes the next time Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock slips into the red suit and horned cowl.
“I wouldn’t put it past the folks at Marvel to be able to accomplish that. I’m such a fan of everything they’ve done so far, I wouldn’t underestimate them at all. So if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do where it feels totally in keeping with everything we’ve done. And maybe there’s a little less blood, maybe there’s a little whatever, but I back them to do it.”

Speaking with Comicbook.com, while Charlie Cox backs a vastly less violent version of Daredevil now that he has joined the MCU, the actor does still think that the darkness involved in the superhero’s story will require a higher rating than Spider-Man.
Charlie Cox Was Reintroduced as Matt Murdock During the Record-Breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home
Marvel Studios
Of course, we have already seen Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in a much more family-friendly setting, with the character appearing during the first part of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Entering the scene to cheers from the audiences (mostly), Murdock assists Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in his troubles with the law before coyly revealing his superhuman abilities with a wry smile.
“It absolutely can work, but I guess what you can’t deny is Daredevil is never going to work as well in a PG world as Spider-Man does. Do you know what I mean? That’s the point. I think that the age of the character, the Christian guilt, his history with women and stuff, it’s like it’s a little bit more mature, it has to be.”
With Cox now back in the fray, Holland is hoping that Spider-Man and Daredevil will team up in the future. “It felt like an actors’ workshop while working with people I really look up to, and Charlie was a lot of fun. It was really cool to see him snap back into a character that I am really a fan of and that he has a lot of love for, obviously,” Holland said of Cox’s appearance in the Spider-Man sequel. “So it was pretty awesome, and I hope that one day we find a way for Spider-Man and Daredevil to team up again.”
Daredevil will be available on Disney+ from March 16.
