Netflix will adapt Gears of War as a live-action movie, and early development on the project is currently underway. As of now, no casting information has yet been announced, leaving it unclear who may be playing Marcus Fenix in the adaptation. Many fans have long wanted Dave Bautista to get this role, and it’s something the Knock at the Cabin star has personally campaigned for as well. The show’s producers must certainly be aware of the fan interest in Bautista, so does that mean he’s up for the role?
That’s hard to say, because as of right now, nobody at Netflix has given Bautista a call. He spoke about the Gears of War film in a new interview with Variety, agreeing with many fans that he could “do that part justice” if given the opportunity. While noting that nobody’s called him just yet, Bautista is holding out hope that the phone will ring soon enough, finally allowing him the chance to carry out this fantasy casting. From the interview:

Marcus Fenix Is a Dream Role for Dave Bautista

It’s not the first time Bautista has pubilcly campaigned for this role following the announcement that Netflix was adapting Gears of War as a live-action film. Previously, Bautista was brought into the actual video game series with downloadable content that placed his likeness onto the Marcus Fenix character. He recorded a video ad to promote the DLC, and after the Netflix announcement, Bautista shared the video to again toss his name into the hat to get the role.
“I can’t make this any easier,” he said.
Bautista also has the endorsement of the video game’s creator, Cliff Bleszinski, for what that’s worth. When the project was announced, Bleszinski said he wanted a Latino actor for Dom, but he agreed with the popular consensus that Bautista should be the person to play the live-action Marcus Fenix.
An animated series adaptation is also in development alongside the live-action film. As of now, Netflix has not yet a release date for either of these adaptations.
