David Michael Bautista Jr., professionally known as only Dave Bautista, is an American actor and retired professional wrestler. From 2002 to 2010, in 2014, and again from 2018 to 2019, he participated in WWE events. He gained the most notoriety in his acting career for his role as the hilariously slow-witted Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since his acting debut in 2006, Bautista has appeared in a number of films, including The Man with the Iron Fists, Riddick, Blade Runner 2049, Army of the Dead, Dune, and the James Bond movie Spectre. In December 2022, Bautista will appear alongside Daniel Craig in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the first sequel to the 2019 crime comedy Knives Out. Deadline also reported that Bautista has signed on to appear in the next M. Night Shyamalan film Knock At The Cabin. With a varied and unique career, Bautista has gained worldwide popularity. 1 The Marvel Cinematic Universe — $7B
Walt Disney Studios
In the MCU, Drax is a soldier and Guardian of the Galaxy member, played by Bautista, who wants retribution for the death of his family. He originally wanted to murder Kree zealot Ronan the Accuser in order to get revenge on his family, but once Ronan was killed, his goal changed to killing Thanos. A running joke about Drax’s character’s inability to grasp metaphors causes him to often take popular idioms literally. Insider even reported in an interview with the film’s screenwriters that Bautista ad-libbed his now infamous line, “I’ll do you one better: Why is Gamora?” from Avengers; Infinity War.
Drax has appeared in several MCU films, including Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. The Marvel movies in which Bautista has starred in so far have gross nearly $7 billion globally. Both the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will include Bautista as Drax.
