Dave Bautista is reportedly hanging up his Marvel boots following Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and among his many other upcoming roles the actor has teased fans of a new secret animation project he is providing voice-over work for. Bautista, who most recently appeared in Dune: Part 1, shared an image of himself in full voice-over recording mode for an upcoming project, but he would not give any hints as to what that project is. Of course, that doesn’t mean that fans are not going to speculate, and more than a few believe it could possibly be one final Marvel project as Drax the Destroyer.

While Bautista has become a household name thanks to his role as Drax in several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, starting way back in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the star has proven that he is more than capable of putting in a performance when not covered in a bunch of prosthetics and body paint. Having recently starred in Apple TV+ series See with Jason Momoa, Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead on Netflix, as well as previously having appeared in Blade Runner 2049 and Spectre, the future for the former wrestler looks pretty rosy, with another round of Dune to come, along with M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin and animated comedy Groove Tails, and of course his supposed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 swan song.

In addition to all this, Bautista also instigated a movie project with friend Jason Momoa, which went from a speculative post on Twitter suggesting the pair should team up for a “Lethal Weapon style buddy-cop movie”, to them actually getting to work on the project with an eye on a 2023/24 release. With all of this to come, it is certain that we will be seeing a lot more of the actor whatever his Marvel future holds.

Dave Bautista Could Have One Final Marvel Surprise Up His Sleeve.

While there is a small chance that Bautista’s shared image could be his work on the upcoming Groove Tails, a movie that also stars another Marvel family member, Jamie Foxx, and his been in production since 2017, the actor hinted that there is currently no public details known about this particular project. There are hints that Bautista’s run as Drax could feature some surprise animated appearances prior to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and that could well be what his voice work i linked to.

Earlier in the month, storyboards from the animated shorts series I Am Groot surfaced on social media and the artwork appeared to suggest that Groot will be joined in these episodes by Drax and other members of the Guardians team. In addition to this, the weekend saw a Marvel Japan site screen shot suggest that a second season of the animated What If…? series will be landing on Disney+ this summer, which could also feature Drax considering the showrunners previously said that the series will feature many Phase Four characters.

While there is no way of knowing if Bautista will have lent his voice to either of these projects at the moment, as Drax was one of the characters voiced by a different actor in the first season of What If…?, it would make sense for him to take a few minutes out to record a few lines for the role while he is currently at work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. Clearly, the information is something that Bautista isn’t planning on sharing just yet, so all we can do is continue to wait and speculate until all is revealed.
