Horror fans like to debate whether Michael Myers is powered by a supernatural evil, but it’s not a philosophy that Halloween Ends helmer David Gordon Green subscribes to. In 2018, Green kicked off his Halloween trilogy with the Blumhouse sequel that only acknowledged the original installment of the series. Bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis for one last hurrah as Laurie Strode, the story comes to an end this week with the release of Halloween Ends.

There have been some moments in these new Halloween films that have fans wondering if there are supernatural elements at play with this incarnation of Michael Myers. Speaking about the situation in an interview with TheWrap, Green, who co-wrote all three films in the trilogy, says he doesn’t see the character as supernatural. At the same time, he likes keeping it ambiguous enough to have fans continuing the debate, even if he personally just feels Michael is one particularly tough mass murderer.

Halloween Ends Will Bring a Conclusion to the Laurie Strode vs. Michael Myers Saga

Green co-wrote Halloween Ends with Paul Brad Logan, Chris Bernier, and Danny McBride. The sequel stars Jamie Lee Curtis, James Jude Courtney, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Rohan Campbell, and Kyle Richards. There are no plans for any more movies in the franchise to be made at Blumhouse and this has been written as a sendoff for Curtis in her role as Laurie Strode.

“Her character’s traveled through my whole life, and then at a point I just became the shepherd, so it was fun to inherit that character, take her on the journey I wanted to go on with her, and then saying goodbye to her,” Green recently said of ending Laurie’s journey with Curtis, via Yahoo. “I do feel confident that we are saying goodbye to Jamie playing Laurie in the universe. At some point someone will maybe bring a new Laurie into something, some twist will happen, and the mythology will continue, but I do feel like this is the last time we’re going to see her nervous smile and those fun enlightening attributes of Laurie Strode.”
