David Harbour is set to play the real-life tony soprano Jimmy Galante in director Cooper Raiff’s next film, The Trashers. Jimmy Galante was the head of a waste disposal business in Connecticut and a convicted mobster who once bought a minor league hockey team, the Danbury Trashers, for his son. He is alleged to be one of the inspirations behind Tony Soprano, the main character of HBO’s acclaimed mob drama, The Sopranos.

The Trashers will be based on his son A.J. Galante’s life, who, at age 17, became the president and general manager of a professional ice Hockey team. The plot synopsis for the film (via Deadline) reads:

30West (I, Tonya, Tiger King) is financing The Trashers, which is expected to be on sale at the Cannes Film Market this summer. Tom McNulty of MC2 Entertainment and Andrew Morrison of Yellow Bear Films will serve as producers alongside Micah Green, Dan Steinman, and Dan Friedkin of 30West. AJ Galante will serve as an associate producer.

“The Trashers will chart the rise and fall of Jimmy Galante (Harbour), a Connecticut trash magnate and associate of the Genovese crime family. In 2004, Galante bought the city’s minor-league hockey team and assigned his teenage son to run it. The team gained notoriety for their rough and violent style of play, but also developed a wide fan base as they started to win more and more games. The team’s success and fame all came to an abrupt end with Galante’s arrest on 72 criminal charges.”

Cooper Raiff will direct The Trashers and revise the original script by Adam R. Perlman (Billions). Raiff is a rising director best known for his Sundance hit, Cha Cha Real Smooth, starring Dakota Johnson and Odeya Rush. The film has been acquired by Apple TV+ for a substantial sum of $15 million and will premiere on June 17, 2022. As for his next project, The Trashers, Raiff is excited to collaborate with David Harbour. He said in a statement:

The Trashers doesn’t have a release date yet but will begin filming this fall.

“I feel so lucky to be working with David. He’s a magnificent actor and the perfect Jimmy Galante because he’s truly tough and impossibly warm. He’s also the best person and I hope he reads this and knows I want to be friends with him forever.”

David Harbour Will Reprise His Role as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things Season 4

David Harbour has come to be known for his leading role as Jim Hopper, the chief of police of the fictional town of Hawkins in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Season 3 left fans reeling in the aftermath of its emotional finale, which saw Hopper seemingly sacrifice himself to save the town. Surprisingly, the character was revealed to be alive and in a Russian prison in the teaser for Stranger Things season 4. Harbour has teased a Gandalf-like resurrection for Hopper and expects fans to be blown away by his return.

Harbour has even called season 4 his favorite, especially for the treatment it gives Hopper. “And one of the great things that you can see with Hopper is that he was a protector, he’s a man of justice [and] he now has become a prisoner. He’s trapped and he’s isolated. And we get to see an entirely other color of him that has been hinted at. This season is my favorite because he really is going to show you some new colors and what he’s really made up of,” the Black Widow star told People Magazine in 2020.

Part one of Stranger Things seasons 4 drops on Netflix on May 27, 2022.
