Given his accomplishments as an actor, David Harbour has plenty to be happy about with his career, but with that said, it’s usually never easy for any actor to shake the negative thoughts that come with one’s failures. Harbour, who rose to great fame with his role as the popular character Hopper on Netflix’s Stranger Things, took over Ron Perlman’s titular role for a Hellboy reboot released in 2019. The film seemingly failed in almost every way, as it was a total dud at the box office that was pummeled relentlessly with bad reviews.

Needless to say, no sequels were made, and Harbour would move on to other projects in the meantime. It didn’t slow down his career in Hollywood, as Harbour even wound up joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his role as Red Guardian in 2021’s Black Widow. The actor is set to reprise the role in a much bigger capacity in the upcoming movie Thunderbolts, coming to theaters in 2024.

In a new interview with THR, Harbour spoke about going from one failed comic book movie role to finding a place in the MCU. He admitted that he wasn’t quite sure if he’d ever be able to fully get over seeing Hellboy bomb so badly, but noting that, Harbour adds that playing Red Guardian as soothed those wounds as much as humanly possible. Here’s what Harbour said when asked if joining the MCU had cleansed his palette following the dismal reception to Hellboy.

When asked if he was excited to reunite with Black Panther co-star Florence Pugh for Thunderbolts, harbour went on to add:

Hellboy Failing Wasn’t Easy for David Harbour, But He Hasn’t Slowed Down

It would seem that nobody in Hollywood has been holding the failures of Hellboy against David Harbour. Aside from joining the MCU, he has also been cast in a main role in a Gran Turismo movie from Sony that is currently filming. Before that film is released, we will first see Harbour playing a warrior-like version of Santa Claus in the holiday action movie Violent Night. The actor told THR that this role was the most physically demanding he’s ever done, even more than what was required to become Hellboy.

Violent Night will be released on Dec. 2, 2022, while Thunderbolts won’t be hitting movie theaters until July 26, 2024.
