A recent viral video had many feeling that Burger King hadn’t fairly compensated one of its employees for nearly three full decades of work without a single work day missed. In the video, which you can watch below, the employee, Kevin Ford, reveals how the restaurant chain thanked him for his 27 years of perfect attendance. He was given a goodie bag including several small inexpensive items, including a movie ticket, bag of Reese’s Pieces, Starbucks plastic cup, lanyard, two pens, and two packets of Life Savers.

“I’m happy about anything, I’m thankful for anything I get, I’m not that type of person, believe me. I’ve been through a lot. It’s a great company, you know, I’ve been there 27 years,” Ford said of the situation, per TMZ. “But like most big corporations, they’ve kind of lost touch with their workers, and through covid and whatever, they started cutting out programs.”

He added, “We used to get checks for 20 years, and that’s what I actually thought that movie ticket was. I was like, ‘Hey, they finally gave me my card,’ and then I saw it was not even two movie tickets – it was one. So I was like, ‘This is just too much,’ and [it seemed] it was just stuff they had laying around that they put together.”

Ford insisted that he remains grateful for his job and that he was just disappointed in the goodie bag. The social media response to the video has also been unanimous with everyone agreeing that this was a lackluster way of repaying Ford for his loyalty and hard work. Hoping to make some good out of the situation, Ford’s daughter launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help get a more substantial reward coming his way. But perhaps they weren’t expecting what happened next.

Per TMZ, the fundraiser was pretty quick to find success, and Ford said he was planning to use the money to purchase a new vehicle and go visit his grandchildren in Texas. But the donations just kept coming, further skyrocketing the financial reward and essentially helping to set up Ford for retirement. Things took another turn when Ford was informed by his daughter that someone named David Spade had just donated $5,000 to the cause.

Initially, Ford wasn’t sure if this was the David Spade, but that verification came when he checked Instagram. Spade had personally sent Ford a message telling him to “keep up the hard work.” Ford was ecstatic and thanked Spade and mentioned that he “might be able to take a day off” now. Spade then quipped back, “Wait till year 30.”

Spade’s donation had pushed the money raised at GoFundMe for Ford to over $30,000. That number is only continuing to rise even higher, because as of this writing, it has grown to more than $40,000. Perhaps hard works sometimes really can pay off, even if the money’s not coming directly from one’s actual employer.
