Action director, producer and former stuntman Chad Stahelski has revealed that there are currently ideas being kicked around for several Day Shift sequels. Released last week, Day Shift finds Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx as an everyman pool cleaner who is really a vampire hunter. While asserting that he isn’t focused on making franchises, Stahelski reveals to DiscussingFilm that “he currently has three ideas for possible Day Shift sequels with ‘two on paper already ready to f—ing go.’”

Stahelski went on to state that he and Day Shift director J.J. Perry “can get better” with the pair hoping to get the chance to “build upon this original idea with more blood, sweat, and tears.” Though neither he, nor Perry, nor the studio behind the movie 87eleven are interested in making Day Shift 2, Day Shift 3, and more for the sake of money.

Day Shift is led by Jamie Foxx as a hard-working blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter. While he works a mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job, this is merely a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.

When the LA vampire hunter is told that has a week to come up with the cash to pay for his kid’s tuition and braces, Foxx must work overtime to make the funds he so desperately needs. Make no mistake, trying to make a living these days just might kill him.

Day Shift stars Dave Franco (Now You See Me, The Disaster Artist), Snoop Dogg (Bones, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run), Scott Adkins (Accident Man), Meagan Good (Monster Hunter), Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder), Eric Lange (Narcos), Zion Broadnax (Holly Day), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society), Oliver Masucci (The Swarm), Steve Howey (Shameless), and C.S. Lee (Dexter) alongside Jamie Foxx.

Described as “John Wick meets Vampires,” Stahelski sells the movie thusly, “Hey, get off your ass and laugh with us,” while also teasing the action that will be on display, “You’ll also see some things like, ‘Jesus, that was cool,’ which is probably the hardest thing for a first-time director to do. So you have to give J.J. a lot of credit for holding that tone all the way through.”

Before Day Shift Sequels, Chad Stahelski is Busy Working on the John Wick Franchise

While Chad Stahelski waits to see whether audiences will have an appetite for more from Day Shift, he is plenty busy with his already hugely successful action franchise, John Wick. Beloved Hollywood legend Keanu Reeves will reprise the role of the dog-loving hitman in the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4, which finds the character going to war with the High Table.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, with a script co-written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch and starring Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Clancy Brow, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ian McShane, Shamier Anderson, and Rina Sawayama, John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to be theatrically released in the United States on March 24, 2023.

Day Shift meanwhile is now available to stream on Netflix.
