Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the video game follows former motorcycle club member Deacon St. John in search for his long-lost love; Heughan is wanted for the role of the live-action Deacon St. John. According to Deadline’s report, the screenplay is also being approached as a “love ballad to motorcycle movies,” with the bike essentially serving as the modern version of a horse in a classic western film. Jennifer Klein and Turner are producing the feature via Vendetta Productions alongside Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan for PlayStation Productions.

Hueghan is perhaps best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in the hit Starz series Outlander. He has previously appeared in movies like When the Starlight Ends, The Spy Who Dumped Me, Bloodshot, and SAS: Red Notice. Heughan can also be seen in the upcoming films Everest from Doug Liman and It’s All Coming Back to Me by Jim Strouse.
Video Game Adaptations Have Been Increasing in Popularity in Recent Years
Sony
We can chalk this up to video game adaptations finding success, inspiring others to be put into development. Films like Mortal Kombat, Detective Pikachu, and especially the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, have found a lot of success with their respective releases in recent years. That has only resulted in several new adaptations getting announced. That includes an all-new animated Super Mario Bros. movie that’s heading to theaters in December.
Sony PlayStation Productions also has multiple adaptations that are already in development based on PlayStation video games. A Twisted Metal series with Anthony Mackie and Neve Campbell is in the works at Peacock, while a series based on The Last of Us with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey is happening at HBO. Other video game movies that are currently in a state of development include Borderlands, Minecraft, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Splinter Cell, and Gears of War.
There’s really no shortage of classic properties to choose from for other adaptations for movies and TV shows. Meanwhile, it was just recently announced that a live-action movie based on Pac-Man is also in development. How that classic arcade game can be retooled to serve as a feature length live-action film remains to be seen, but the success of video game movies in the recent past has gotten Hollywood feeling more confident in other classic titles, such as the legendary Pac-Man, can find similar success.
Days Gone is very early in development without having been officially announced by Sony PlayStation Productions at this time. It’s unclear when filming would be slated to begin and there hasn’t been a release date announced.
