Recently appointed co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, has replied directly to the recent statement made by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. Jenkins has released a statement via social media clarifying her involvement in tentpole projects such as Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, with Gunn responding with a tweet that praises his fellow filmmaker’s conduct.

Keeping things short and sweet, The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy director provided his own brief assessment of the recent reports, revealing that all the interactions between himself, DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran and Patty Jenkins have been both professional and pleasant.

“I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.”

Gunn’s statement regarding Jenkins’ character contradicts some recent reports on why projects such as Wonder Woman 3 and Rogue Squadron have been put on the back burner. DC fans were left shocked by the sudden cancelation of Wonder Woman 3, with insiders claiming that it was due to Jenkins’ approach that the comic book movie sequel was shelved. “Jenkins was given the chance to take another stab at a Wonder Woman 3 treatment after receiving notes from all Warner Bros. motion picture brass (it wasn’t just Gunn and Safran’s decision),” reports have claimed. “There were concerns about character arcs and payoffs, and the threequel emulating similar structural problems ala Wonder Woman 1984. She decided to take her toys and go home.”

Further insiders have revealed that the response from the studio resulted in a very negative reaction from Jenkins, who went so far as to send an email to Warner Bros. Film Group Co-Chairperson and CEO Michael De Luca containing a link to the Wikipedia definition of “character arc.”

We may never know for sure what went on behind the scenes, but it’s clear that there is no animosity between James Gunn and Patty Jenkins.

Warner Bros. Still Wants to Make Wonder Woman 3 with Gal Gadot

While it’s unlikely that Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins will be at the helm, Wonder Woman 3 remains a sequel that Warner Bros. Pictures still wants to make. And they want Gal Gadot back as the titular superhero.

Further insights from insiders have stated that “The hope for another Wonder Woman film exists. The question is whether Gadot wants to make it sans Jenkins, and judging from the actress’ tweet two days before the explosive DC news, it sounds like she wants to stay aboard.”

We currently have very little idea of what James Gunn and Peter Safran are planning to do with the DCU. Amid an onslaught of reports regarding the status of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, Gunn has since taken to social media in an attempt to provide some clarity to the ongoing rumors and speculation saying, “some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.”
