When the collectibles arm of DC Comics ceased operations last year it was questionable whether their planned output would ever see the light of day, but thanks to McFarlane Toys flying into action to agree to distribute the remaining inventory, which included DCeased versions of Superman, Supergirl, Harley Quinn and The Flash, these figures are now available for pre-order with shipping due in April 2022. These will be some of the very last figures that were in production at the time of DC Direct/DC Collectibles becoming defunct in 2020.

McFarlane Toys have released a number of other DC toy lines over the years, so it seemed natural for the company to step in and take over on this final run of the DC Direct/DC Collectibles lines, and it has already been announced that McFarlane is also planning on continuing some of the other now-disbanded lines under their own name, meaning that there will be a whole new group of figures coming up for pre-order sometime in 2022. You can find out more at the official website for McFarlane Toys.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

DCeased is the DC Comics equivalent of Marvel Zombies, a six-part comic book miniseries that was created by Tom Taylor in 2019, and tells of an alternative Earth where most of the inhabitants of the planet have been transformed into zombies thanks to a virus. Featuring the biggest DC heroes including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and more, the miniseries was a huge hit and received critical praise for both the story and artwork. It was not just the heroes of DC’s canon that found themselves caught up in the chaos, with Harley Quinn, Joker and the Birds of Prey also succumbing to the virus and becoming bloodthirsty zombies.

The series was popular enough to have a number of spin-offs including A Good Day To Die, Unkillables and Dead Planet, which acted as a direct sequel to the original miniseries, taking place five years later. The individual stories have all been released in collector’s edition hardcover, and with DC’s catalogue forming a large part of Warner Bros. output on HBO Max, there is a question of whether we will ever see the story told on the big or small screen.

Of course, as with many things, there are plenty of Marvel fans who will point out that there are a lot of similarities between DCeased and the Marvel Zombies miniseries that preceded it by well over a decade. Marvel Zombies, which was the creation of The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman, was the story of an alternative universe where all of Marvel’s heroes had been turned into zombies by a virus…doesn’t sound familiar at all.

However, Marvel Zombies recently made their small screen debut in Marvel’s What If…? on Disney+, and will also be getting their own animated series, which is currently in development. Rumors have circulated about a live-action appearance of the Marvel Zombie’s somewhere down the line – and after all we have already seen an undead Iron Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 – but whether that comes to happen is something that only time will tell.
