Netflix has pulled the plug on the animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park. Based on the original graphic novels by Hamish Steele and developed for Netflix by Steele, the series originally permiered its first season on June of last year with season 2 following soon after in October. While Steele was hoping to keep the story going with a third season, Deadline reports that Netflix has officially canceled Dead End: Paranormal Park with no plans to make season 3.

“I have held onto this news for a while now, hoping that we could reverse it, change it, make something good out of it. But sadly I don’t think that’s possible right now. It’s with a heavy heart that I tell you Dead End is over,” Steele said with a post on Twitter.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Obviously, we never wanted this to be the case,” the post continues, noting how a writers room was assembled with scripts and other materials ready to go. It all boils down to Netflix passing on the investment of developing any new episodes of the show, and while that is disappointing for Steele, he also extends his gratitude to the streaming platform for allowing Dead End: Paranormal Park to span for two seasons. Meanwhile, he’s not giving up hope that he can one day finish telling this story for the fans.

“Honestly, we were lucky to make it through everything happening in the last few years,” Steele says. “And I want to emphasize my gratitude to Netflix for commissioning the show and for giving us the freedom to tell this story. We made history together and I couldn’t be prouder of those twenty episodes and every single member of our crew.”

The statement adds, “I believe we will finish this story some day, some how… But until then, I hope Barney, Norma, Pugley, Courtney, and the whole Phoenix Parks crew will continue to give you comfort in times of darkness.”
