The reveal that Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine in the MCU as part of Deadpool 3 was not news that anyone expected to hear today, but one person who was seemingly not shocked and is rather relieved for the announcement is director Shawn Levy. Although Levy has previously hinted that he would love to be the person to put Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on screen together, he revealed today that he has found it difficult keeping the secret to himself, but working on Stranger Things has helped.

Shawn Levy has worked on a number of projects with Ryan Reynolds, and he will be taking the helm of Deadpool 3, which will see Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth final join the MCU in all his R-rated glory. Now we know that he will also be joined by Jackman’s Wolverine, who was last seen in what was thought to be his final appearance as the popular X-Men character in Logan, another R-rated Marvel movie. What this all means for the movie is still a long way from being revealed, but for now, Levy is just thankful not to be keeping his lips sealed on the subject. He wrote on Twitter:

Deadpool 3’s Hype Has Just Taken a Huge…or Hugh…Jump

There is no doubting that Deadpool 3 is already massively hyped, with Ryan Reynolds’ return having been teased ever since the merger between Fox and Disney made a Deadpool appearance in the MCU a possibility. Since then, there have been assurances that when Deadpool makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, it will be as the same R-rated, smart-talking, fourth-wall-breaking character that fans have come to love, and that has made the anticipation for official news on the sequel higher than for many other Marvel projects.

Now that Hugh Jackman is on board, and fans now also know to expect the threequel in September 2024, social media has lit up with fan theories and hopes about how the movie could pan out. Of course, with the multiverse in play, there is no telling whether Deadpool 3 will be set within the MCU or another reality, and s Reynolds already teased the movie to be a “fish out of water” story, the border between worlds could certainly come into play for Deadpool and Jackman’s version of Wolverine to appear together within the MCU’s narrative.

Shawn Levy previously commented, “I’m not going to say where or how, but absolutely confirm my intention and determination to be the lucky son of a bitch who puts these two magnificent gods in the same movie together.” Now, the speculation on where and how that will be is over, and fans can sit back and await the arrival of what is certain to be one of the biggest R-rated movies of all time when Deadpool 3 hits cinemas on September 6, 2024.
