Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is just as excited as everyone else about the surprise return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. In an interview with Forbes, Reynolds revealed further details of Jackman’s comeback, and the actor could barely contain his excitement when discussing the idea of Deadpool and Logan together at last.
Beloved Marvel characters Deadpool and Wolverine have been seen together before in the 2009 prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But due to the lacking quality of that particular outing, many don’t really count it, with Deadpool 3 expected to finally be the real deal. A deal that Reynolds is hugely excited to see take shape.
“I couldn’t be more excited. I mean, especially to do it this way. Ultimately, I get to work with some of my closest friends in the world and that doesn’t happen every day working in this business.”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The announcement that Wolverine will join Wade Wilson in Deadpool 3 came rather suddenly, with Reynolds sharing a video on his Twitter account. “Hey, everyone. We’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we have been working extremely hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now,” Reynolds began. After calling Deadpool 3 “an incredible challenge that has formed me to reach down deep inside,” Reynolds adds that he has “…nothing. Yeah. Completely up here. And Terrifying. But, we did have one idea."
“I feel the same way that the fans do, though. I feel as excited that this character is coming back for another ride, particularly in this context. I think it’s something that people have wanted for a long time, to get this pairing up on the big screen, and that’s what we aim to do.”
Hugh Jackman then appears in the background, with Reynolds asking, “Hey Hugh. You wanna play Wolverine one more time?” Jackman, who last played Wolverine in the superb Logan back in 2017, then replies with a casual, “Yeah, sure Ryan.”
Deadpool 3 is Now Scheduled for Release in September 2024
Marvel Studios
Reynolds has now revealed that he sat on the announcement, and the subsequent videos, for several weeks. And that he knew the monumental effect they would have.
While details of Deadpool 3 remain under wraps, it is now a pretty safe assumption that the movie will follow Wade Wilson and Logan as they embark on a road trip. Reynolds already revealed these details all the way back in January 2021, saying on social media that the plan for the threequel “before Disney bought Fox” was to center on “a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style.”
Directed by Shawn Levy, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool 3 is now scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024.
