Since the second installment of the series was released in 2018, folks have been demanding the return of Wade Wilson, the smack-talking, sword-swinging Merc With a Mouth, also known as Deadpool. Fortunately, recent buzz, led in large part by the actor behind the red-suited renegade, Ryan Reynolds, has suggested that MCU enthusiasts will get their wish with Deadpool 3, though they’ll have to wait until 2024.
The first two Deadpool films showcased a suspicious lack of X-Men, with the exception of a brief shot in Deadpool 2 that showed many major characters huddled in a breakroom. Their absence, which Deadpool chalked up to budget restraints, was glaring. There were countless moments in the initial installments where Wade Wilson and company could have really used the help of the mutant squad.
However, if a recently released teaser is to be believed, one of the most beloved X-Men will be part of the third movie. Deadpool has always had a bit of a crush on Wolverine, Hugh Jackman’s clawed character. A teaser shows Wilson sitting on a couch when Hugh Jackman casually walks into the frame. Deadpool asks if he will reprise his role in the third film, and Jackman reluctantly agrees. If Logan is making an appearance, it’s reasonable to assume that some other fan-favorite mutants could show up as well. Which X-Men could we see in the upcoming film?
Professor X, Either as a Telepathic Terror or Psychic Partner
20th Century Fox
Perhaps the most important character in the X-Men franchise is the man behind the team’s name, Professor X, or Charles Xavier. He is the founder of the team and the longtime head of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. He has telepathic abilities and is likely one of the most powerful mutants in the entire X-Men universe. The character has been portrayed by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy at different stages of his life. The X-Men timeline, manipulated by time travel, has become rather convoluted.

Wade Wilson joked about both of these facts in Deadpool 2. Though Xavier died at the end of Logan, the post-credit scene of Deadpool 2 introduced time travel, which could make it possible for him to return in one form or another.
In Logan, which was initially thought to represent Jackman’s, it is revealed that an elderly Professor X is suffering from both Alzheimer’s and periodic seizures. Throughout the film, an incident in Westchester is alluded to. It is eventually revealed that Xavier, while suffering a seizure, let out an accidental psychic burst that killed many X-Men and injured around 600 people. How he could potentially factor into the plot of Deadpool 3 largely depends on his life stage.
Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead Should Make a Return
The two X-Men who were featured in the first two Deadpool films were Colossus, a muscle-bound Russian made of metal, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, a young woman with the ability to let loose earth-shattering bursts of atomic energy. Even if the upcoming film’s creators opt to include some new X-Men in Deadpool 3, these two will almost certainly be included as well.

A Deadpool film without this peculiar duo would be lacking a crucial element. Negasonic Teenage Warhead tries her best to keep Deadpool’s ego in check, constantly throwing snarky barbs at Wilson. Colossus, on the other hand, is always trying to turn Wilson toward the light, delivering moralistic diatribes about the nature of heroism, to varying levels of success.
Quicksilver, a Potential Match for Wade Wilson’s Constant Quipping
In all likelihood, the best possible X-Men member to include in Deadpool 3 would be Quicksilver. His superpower is speed, and he’s proven to be one of the most powerful mutants in the franchise, able to outrun even explosions. Recently, Quicksilver showed up in Wandavision, and the character’s casting in the series was clearly a reference to the fact that two actors have portrayed him in the MCU.
Quicksilver is almost as fast with a clever joke as he is on the feet, which could potentially make him the perfect comedic compliment to Deadpool. Additionally, the actor behind the most recognizable version of Quicksilver, Evan Peters, recently portrayed serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in a Netflix original series, which perfectly sets the stage for one of Deadpool’s classic meta jokes.
Deadpool’s wacky antics, rife with meta-commentary and shocking vulgarity, have enraptured fans for years. The gruff, no-nonsense Wolverine will be the perfect foil to his ridiculousness, and MCU audiences have plenty of reason to think that their odd couple pairing will make for a hilarious film. Additional X-Men could only serve to up the entertainment value. There may even be an appearance from the most powerful superhero of all, country music sensation Taylor Swift.
