With more and more videogame adaptations coming to both the big and small screen soon, fans can soon look forward to the theatrical rendition of the chaotically comedic open-world shooter series Borderlands. Helmed by horror film mogul Eli Roth and co-written with Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) who so happens to also have the reins on the live-action television rendition of The Last of Us (2023), Borderlands has since wrapped filming, but now is in the reshoot phase. According to a report from SlashFilm, it’s actually Deadpool director Tim Miller who is in charge of the reshoot schedule.
Despite what it seems like, Tim Miller is not taking over reshoots because of any particular conflict. Eli Roth wasn’t fired from the production, and he didn’t throw in the towel either. He’s apparently just busy with another, predictably gorier project called Thanksgiving that had scheduling conflicts with the mere two weeks of planned reshoots. So he entrusted fellow eccentric director Tim Miller to oversee the process in his stead. Given the absolutely outlandish content of Borderlands and Miller’s delightful work on Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), it likely could not be in better hands.

Why Borderlands Absolutely Works For the Big Screen
For those who don’t dabble much in to the world of videogames, Borderlands is an ongoing first-person shooter series developed by Gearbox Software that oozes personality and is about as unique as it gets. A 3D cell-shaded sci-fi action game with Western themes, an exceptionally well-written, heartfelt story, incredibly memorable characters, and every manner of relevant slapstick comedy under the sun that hits the funny bone just right every time. While the game was often overshadowed by more serious titles when it came to awards, the series nonetheless went on to become of the highest grossing videogame franchises of all time, and remains as beloved now as when the first game came out over a decade ago.
The impact clearly shows also in the very impressive casting for the live-action film. Lead stars include Cate Blanchett as Lilith, one of the main characters. She especially was a surprising announcement for fans, though given her history with Marvel and her impeccable versatility as an actor overall, she is bound to be a perfect fit. Starring alongside her are Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black as Claptrap, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis, Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi, and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, just to name a few. Each character has a vibrant personality the size of a planet, and the scale of the film is bound to be utterly massive.
Given the need for reshoots in March, production company Lionsgate still has yet to announce an official release date for the Borderlands film, or for an upcoming trailer.
