Demon Slayer anime gets better each season, and fans have raised the bar with each new installment. Nonetheless, the anime only produced positive results, with Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train becoming Japan’s highest-grossing film of all time. The second season, which told the story of Entertainment District Arc, blew up the internet with mind-blowing action sequences and stunning animation. It now puts us in an even more intriguing situation regarding what season three has in store for us.

The anime introduced a few Hashiras and Upper Moon Demons in the first two seasons and the film, but Swordsmith Village Arc is all about a greater dramatic change. Since the commencement of the third season’s production, fans have been speculating about everything that will happen. So, here’s what we’re hoping to see in the third season of Demon Slayer.

Mist Hashira & Love Hashira vs. A Terrifying Upper Moon Demon

The third season teaser for Demon Slayer revealed the location of the next mission to be Swordsmith Village. Tanjiro most likely begins by heading to the village to replace his broken sword and meeting the two Hashiras, who have yet to demonstrate their fighting abilities. So far, the only upper moon demons we’ve seen are Akaza from Demon Slayer The movie: Mugen Train, and Gyutaro from Entertainment District Arc. So, unless the anime introduces a far more terrifying opponent to put both Love and Mist Hashiras in a bind, it won’t be as intriguing as previous seasons.

Now it’s time to predict which upper moon demon will most likely appear in the coming season. Considering Akaza debuted in the film and is a freakishly strong character, the anime will save him for future battles. So anyone from Douma to Gyokko could appear as the main antagonist in this arc. As for Kokushibo, the Upper Moon One, he is a far more terrifying foe, capable of confronting all Hashiras at once. Seeing Douma at the end of Entertainment District Arc also increases the odds of seeing him in the next season.

Tanjiro’s Growth and Genya’s Introduction

Tanjiro has grown in strength after Rengoku’s death, even to the point of overpowering Daki (Gyutaro’s sister) in a fight. However, to confront an upper moon demon, much alone Muzan Kibutsuji, he must fight on the same level as a Hashira. It’s also doubtful that we’ll see Zenitsu and Inosuke in action for a time, as Tanjiro only went to Swordsmith Village with Nezuko. Furthermore, little is known about Mist Hashira, and he would certainly require the assistance of Tanjiro and Nezuko to defeat an upper moon demon.

Even after two seasons and a film, the anime still needs to re-introduce Genya, who seems to play a crucial role in the upcoming seasons. He was introduced alongside Zenitsu and Tanjiro in the Demon Slayer Corps examination. As a result, he will most likely aid the Hashiras with Tanjiro and Nezuko in the third season.

Includes Hashira Training Arc for the Big Reveal

The Swordsmith Village arc is nearly as long as the Entertainment District arc (streaming on Netflix), and it would be, at most, 12 episodes. Following this arc, we have Hashira Training Arc and Final Battle Arc — which splits into Infinity Castle Arc and Sunrise Countdown Arc. In light of this, Ufotable is more likely to incorporate Hashira Training Arc in the third season. Fans would also be dissatisfied if the characters of Zenitsu and Inosuke did not progress with Tanjiro.

The Final Battle arc, according to manga readers on Reddit, is one of the most complicated battle sequences ever seen in anime. So, concluding the third season without a huge reveal may not thrill audiences as much. Hashira Training arc, on the other hand, will change the entire structure of the story by giving the power-ups to Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and hopefully Nezuko. Although the Swordsmith Village Arc focuses mainly on Mitsuri Kanroji (Love Hashira) and Muichiro Tokito (Mist Hashira), the Hashira Training Arc will bring all of them together again, as it did at the end of the first season during the semi-annual Hashira meeting.

There are also a few unanswered questions, such as Muzan’s pursuit of Blue Spider Lily, his past, and the backstory of the first Hashira, Yoriichi Tsugikuni. Another reason the Hashira Training arc will be featured in season 3 is that it could serve as a break from the action and hint at the “calm before the storm,” similar to how the Rehabilitation arc did in the first season.

In conclusion, Hashiras tend to become fan favorites every season, such as Shinobu Kocho (Insect Hashira) and Giyu Tomioka (Water Hashira) in the first season, Rengoku Kyoujuro (Flame Hashira) in the Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train, and Uzui Tengen (Sound Hashira) in Entertainment District Arc. Consequently, the third season unveils the true strengths and backstories of Mitsuri Kanroji and Muichiro Tokita.

The third season of Demon Slayer has yet to receive an official release date; however, it has been confirmed for early 2023. While you wait for the next season with bated breath, you should check out these top revenge-themed anime.
