Diego Luna, fresh off from Andor’s success, is now in the news for another fantastic reason. The actor is the face of new rumors concerning casting for the lead of Fantastic Four. Earlier rumors and reports suggested that Star Wars’ Cassian Andor is being eyed to play Mister Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe iteration of Fantastic Four, set to release in 2025. After John Krasinski played a variant of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans were sure he’d reprise the role in future MCU projects. However, Kevin Feige has since kept silent on the matter, and there are no official confirmations about him playing the character in the mainstream MCU.

Now that we know Fantastic Four is not an origin story, many new casting rumors have surfaced for the team-up, with Diego Luna being the latest. In an interview with Kristian Harloff via his YouTube channel, Luna addressed these rumors and offered insight into that matter.

About the rumors, Luna said,

The actor further explained that he is already packed for the next two years, and there probably isn’t any space on his schedule to make room for more.

“I just like the… I was talking about that this morning like the rumors. When you become part of rumors, half of the rumors were real, you know. It’s just incredible the amount of stuff that I see now out there.”

“The only thing I can tell you is that, for the next two years, I’m busy. In two years, we’ll see if what I want to do is even film.”

Can Luna Play Mister Fantastic in the MCU?

Though the statements could be Luna’s way of hiding the truth; however, if true, Luna probably won’t be leading Marvel’s first family. Luna is yet to finish work on Andor’s second and final season, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Star Wars series. He is also an executive producer on the show.

It will be a long-term commitment if he is to sign on to Marvel Studios’ MCU. The Fantastic Four will consecutively feature in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, as well as in the next leg of the franchise. Any actor signing up for the role would be busy with Marvel completing work on several films and possibly television productions.

Since Diego Luna confirms that he is busy for the next two years, including his commitment to Andor, it’s hardly possible for him to divide that time with Marvel Studios. He further comments that he is unsure if it will be a film project he’ll opt for after these two years. So, no matter how tempting the rumors are, it’s better not to get hopes high.

Currently, Diego Luna is enamored with praise for his performance in Andor. The actor is also nominated for Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards. However, there is still a lot to learn regarding Fantastic Four. Whether Diego Luna will be a part of the Fantastic Four is unknown, but there will be room for a prolific actor like him in the MCU. And hopefully, we’ll get to see him there.

Fantastic Four will release on February 14, 2025.
