Howard the Duck was destined to become a cult icon from the minute his first big-screen appearance in 1986 flopped. While it may not have been the best start for Marvel’s assault on cinemas, just over 20 years later, it didn’t really matter anymore as the MCU began its first steps to becoming the biggest movie franchise in the world. Although no one really expected it, that Marvel journey has included the reappearance of a new and updated version of Howard, voiced in the MCU by Family Guy and Austin Powers star Seth Green. After several cameo roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and the briefest of appearances in Avengers: Endgame, Howard lovers may have been given some idea of where to watch for the sarcastic anthropomorphic duck’s next appearance.
Howard was given his biggest MCU role to date in the animated What If…? series last year, and although there have been rumors of a Howard the Duck animated series being in the works, it now appears that he could be back in a live-action form quite soon in the She-Hulk series. Information from an official Disney Magazine published in France has seemingly revealed a previously unknown little tidbit about the upcoming Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo series. Shared on Twitter by @tuttiquantinoob, the article in question gives a rough translation of:
She-Hulk Could Be A Launchpad For Full Howard The Duck Series.

For those who only know Howard the Duck through his MCU appearances so far, hearing that he could be turning up in “legal comedy” She-Hulk may seem like something of a stretch. However, in Marvel Comics, the paths of She-Hulk and Howard did cross as far back as the early 80s, and Howard’s work as a PI has led him down a similar path to Jennifer Walters on some occasions. Since Howard was last seen storming into battle against Thanos, it is easy to assume that he decided to stay on Earth, and go down the route of finding investigative work to keep himself busy.
“A webbed future? Howard the Duck seems to be part of Marvel’s plans again: in the What If…? series, he got married to Darcy Lewis…Does the duck, elected in 2009 as one of the strangest characters in the Marvel team by “Time” magazine, have a promising bright future? In any case, the She-Hulk series, which lands this year on Disney +, could reserve some “what the duck” surprises! This should delight lovers of this turbulent duck, determined to do as he pleases.”
With She-Hulk going down a comedy route, there is no doubt that Howard’s sarcasm would definitely fit the format and potentially could end up leading to him getting his spin-off. After so many years as the butt of many jokes, Howard’s occasional use in the MCU so far seems like it has to be leading to more than a simple ongoing cameo role, as there is a lot of potential in the character that has never been allowed to flourish on screen. With rumors that She-Hulk will be arriving in just a few months, we don’t have long to wait to find out if this could be Howard’s moment to shine.
