Under Wraps 2 is currently in production at Bridge Studios in Canada. Marvista Entertainment and Warner are the production teams behind the project. This spooky teenage-based comedy led to a sequel after having a successful run on Disney+ this past October. Under Wraps director Alex Zamm has signed back on and is confirmed to be directing this film as well. The cherished kids film tells the story of an awakened mummy and the surprising bond he builds with three children in modern times. The original version of Under Wraps premiered roughly 25 years ago as the first-ever Disney Channel original movie. It starred Adam Wylie, Mario Yadida, Clara Bryant and was directed by Greg Beeman.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Bridge Studios has been a popular filming location for decades and is still in high demand. Besides Under Wraps 2, current shows like Yellowjackets and films like the upcoming Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic World Dominion have been in production there. Even classic horror films, like the original movie It from author Steven King was made at Bridge Studios in Burnaby, Canada, which is near Vancouver. The 2021 Under Wraps reboot film was also filmed there from November to December 2020. It’s likely the sequel will be filmed at a similar speed. Here’s everything we know about Under Wraps 2.
The Confirmed Cast of Under Wraps 2
Disney
Malachi Barton, Christian J. Simon, Sofia Hammons, and Phil Wright will all be returning to their starring roles. Under Wraps follows three 12-year-old friends, Marshall (Barton), Gilbert (Simon), and Amy (Hammons) who find out an Egyptian mummy has been stolen while they were on a school trip to the local museum. When they discover the stolen Mummy in a neighbor’s basement, they manage to awaken it and name him Harold (Wright). From there, they soon discover how the Mummy came back to life and learn they must rush him back to his resting place before midnight on Halloween or Harold will never find his long-lost love.
Watching a 4000-year-old mummy learn to interact with modern appliances, get dragged behind a bus, and deal with the school bully are among the highlights. Along the way, the team initially escapes a group of criminals who are determined to sell the mummy to the highest bidder. When Harold the mummy is eventually captured, however, Marshall, Gilbert, and Amy must stand up to the criminals and rescue their new friend.
Plot: What Under Wraps 2 Will Be About
There has been no official word yet in regard to what the plot of the new film will be about. It’s likely Harold the mummy’s long-lost love will be more involved this time around. Perhaps the criminals will return for revenge or there may be a new group of villains altogether to overcome. Could there be another ancient mummy (or group of mummies) who come back to life this time? Since the main characters are a little older now (and this will be a sequel), the journey will likely be scarier and more challenging than ever before. New characters are certainly to be expected. The sequel will likely be about 90 minutes long, similar to the 2021 film.
Anticipated Release Date
Now that filming has begun for Under Wraps 2, an official release date should be in the works and announced in the lead-up to Halloween. Indeed, Under Wraps 2 will not be the only Halloween-related project Disney+ has planned this year. Werewolf by Night from the Marvel Cinematic Universe was also recently announced and the long-awaited sequel of a classic fan-favorite, Hocus Pocus 2, has just finished filming and will also be released for Halloween.
Last year, during the release of the Under Wraps reboot film, Disney+ also made an event out of the Halloween season with new movies like Muppets Haunted Mansion and the TV series Just Beyond. Muppets Haunted Mansion was based on the popular Disney ride, while Just Beyond featured completely different scary stories in every episode for fans to enjoy. Disney also recently had success with another mystery-based show, Secrets of Sulfur Springs, which just released their exciting second season on the streaming platform as well.
