We can presume that there will be some major announcements to be made at D23, but will this include some info about a new X-Men project? For years, there have been rumors and rumblings about the X-Men popping up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it remains unclear when Professor X and his class of mutants will officially make their debut. Will they first appear in a Marvel series or movie, or will there be a solo X-Men film to introduce the bunch before they mingle with the others? That remains to be seen.

In any case, it looks like Disney may be dropping a major update on their X-Men plans when D23 arrives. On Twitter, the official page for Disney+ posted a GIF of Hugh Jackman’s Logan extending his Wolverine claws. Also included is the hashtag #XMen along with a message that reads, “SNIKT. 6 days until Disney Plus Day!”

Why would Disney+ use Wolverine imagery and the #XMen hashtag to promote D23? It’s easy to presume that this means something involving the X-Men will be announced at the event. With that said, it’s not exactly a confirmation that we’ll definitely get some news. This might just be a case of a social media manager simply using a Wolverine GIF to promote Marvel’s presence at D23 in a more general manner. Many fans seem to believe that there’s something to this, however, so it will certainly be worth staying tuned to see what this means.

We Know an Animated X-Men Series Is Coming

While the rumored X-Men announcement could be about the characters’ introduction in the live-action MCU, it’s possible that it will have more to do with the animated series that has already been announced for Disney+. Called X-Men ‘97, the new show will serve as a continuation to the popular X-Men cartoon show from the 1990s. The series will bring back several original voice actors and use a similar art style as well, making it feel like a true successor.

Still, as this show has already been announced, fans may feel let down if there’s not something else major in store to be revealed at D23. There are other rumors that casting information for the MCU’s X-Men could be announced at the event. If that’s the case, maybe Giancarlo Esposito will be announced to play Professor X as he has recently been teasing. In any case, the teases will definitely have X-Men fans on the hook to see what happens.
